A personal Blog or company Blog, each has its benefits to the visitor. Blogs which are updated often are rate highly by search engines for indexing.

Blogging
Private Blog or Business Blog
If you are new to Blogging, hopefully this Squidoo Lens will help get you started. There is so much information on the Internet, you will never be lost for an answer or solution. These views are personal and there are many other views you can follow.The easiest way is to start a Blog, is to use www.blogger.com which is part of the Google network of companies.
First you have to decide what you want your Blog for. Sounds easy, but these things develop into something different over time. Is it a private Blog about you or your hobby or is it part of news organisation, charity or environmental group, or maybe it is part of your overall marketing strategy.
Owning your own Blog and being part of the world community, is a very satisfactory way to spend a few minutes every week.
If you do not have the time, do not like writing, then don't own a Blog

Creating a posting once every 2-3 months is not good, every other day and about 1-2 paragraphs is the best, naturally with keywords in the text.
