WOW. Very, very informative, you've given me a lot of information to think about! I went out last week to buy materials to make my own indoor composte bin. I do juicing on a regular basis so I end up with a huge amount of already very broken down plant fiber/matter. You think that will make the composting process go faster if the food is broken down into such small bits? Thanks for sharing so much great info!

Great stuff - the life of the soil is the basis of the garden and of healthy produce (and therefore healthy eating). As a vegetarian and wholly 'organic' family, we use organic and biodynamic methods in the garden and absolutely NO synthetic chemicals. Our compost includes nothing that is not certified organic or grown ourselves.

Well first make sure to find a lab that's been recommended ? then follow this TicTacDo http://tictacdo.com/ttd/Take-an-Accurate-Soil-Sample - this is actually quite good advice, a friend of mine posted it.

We have a small garden this year, but I'm hoping to expand it by next year. I'll try implementing some of these strategies. I've got my compost pile up and running but it can always be improved :) Thanks!

Totally awesome info. You might consider breaking it up into maybe three lenses. Two kinds of composting and potting soil for your reach to Giant Squid. Welcome to the To Compost or Not to Compost Headquarters
