What Picnik Can Do For You

Picnik Premium is free for everyone! Picnik is closing down later in April 2012 and until that time, all the Premium features are free for everyone! I've been using Picnik.com for several years now via the interface at Flickr. I found it so useful that I'm a registered user and for about $25 year I have access to even more fun ways to fix up my photos. This lens will share some fun ways to spice up your scrapbooking or arts and crafts projects. Flickr is once again working with Snapfish so any photos you create can be printed from your Flickr account.

Using Picnik.com to Fix the Exposure of Your Image

Many digital photographers don't have the expensive lighting equipment needed to solve lighting issues. You can use Picnik for small fixes to the picture quality. Premium accounts have access to a more versatile tool for changing exposure called "Curves". But, this image below was editted with the free "Exposure" option. Brightening the image really helps the pink rose stand out among the leaves.

Creating Blue Roses with Picnik.com

Just as Mother Nature Intended

You can change the flower color using the option "Tint". I learned this technique thanks to a video by curiouskiwi as discussed on my blog.

Create Retro-Style Scrapbook Photos at Picnik

At Picnik.com they have a 1960s effect that recreates digital photos in a retro style. This is a fantastic idea for creating unique scrapbooks. You can either print from flickr or Picnik, or save the images and have them printed locally.

Create Dreamy, Fantasy Photos

Orton-ish Effect at Picnik

The Orton-ish effect at Picnik adds a dreamy haze, while brightening and adding some contrast to images. This effect works wonders on all kinds of images.

Picnik's Easter Effects - Bunny Tone

The Easter Effects Bunny Tone at Picnik (via flickr) can add some interesting color variations. In this case I used the advanced mode "overlay" and it brightened up the image of the pink rose nicely.

Create a Black and White Photo from Color Image

You can use Picnik (via Flickr) to create a black and white photo from one of your color digital images. When I transformed this rose, I set the filter option to red to provide more contrast between the rose and leaves.

Create Your Own Avatar with Picnik.com

This video gives an example of creating a 100 x 100 avatar from a larger image using Picnik. It's also a very useful video because it'll show you how to save higher quality JPEG images at the Picnik.com site.

Have really enjoyed easily cropping photos and playing with the colors in Picnik. I hope there will be the same editing tools in Google+.
