Creative Motivation

In this lens I will go over some of my personal motivation processes that I like to go through when I'm stuck designing a logo or coming up with a fresh idea for a website layout. I strongly suggests for you to find your own solution to the motivation roadblock that many of us artists have to face each day specially when you have a job where you have to output fresh designs throughout the entire day.

Dude where's my motivation?

As a professional graphic designer I am constantly required to output quick designs, quickly ideas and in some cases these designs have to be finalize within an hour or two before they go into print. And sometimes I find myself out of ideas and outputting similar designs which in some cases may work if the customer is different. Some designers will tell you that this is a no no but when you are swamped with work and have three or four projects due at the same hour it is difficult to find time to get motivated.

If you find yourself stuck without any ideas you have time to spare you do some of the stuff that I like to do. The best motivation that I like is listening to music which plays throughout the day and will not interfere with your work. Another solution would be to take the time out and look at other people's work critiqued and get excited through their work. I enjoy looking at different peoples work no matter if it's logo design product design or simply a personal artwork. Visually seeing colors and shapes throughout a period of time can stimulate your creative juices. Physical activity can get your blood flowing to help your brain receive more oxygen which then can help you come up with fresh ideas. Since I work from home it's easier for me to take a break and go for a walk or run, but for some of you that work at a nine to five job it may take a little more. A suggestion for those that have a full-time job would be to take their break when stuck on a design problem. If you are unable to take a break you can switch onto a different project to take your mind off your current problem. Running before coming into work is also a great way to jump start your blood flow and will give you the energy you need throughout the day. Some people like working out after work then going home and doing some personal artwork. When I am not in front of the computer or have a pencil in my hands I like to pick up a magazine and read about my favorite hobby for me that hobby is custom automotive cars like import tuners, muscle cars, and hot rods. Creative motivation comes with in, so find what makes you happy. It could be a hobby, reading, listening to music, working out, or my favorite sleeping.
