Creativity Reiki Basics
Creativity Reiki utilizes the univeral life force to remove blocks from your chakras, give you more inspiration, higher energy, and greater access to your imagination and archetypal levels of consciousness. It is a practice I have developed based on my own work with energy and creativity for the last two decades.
Creativity rarely works in a straight line, so although this is a manual and attunement, start with whatever you are drawn to here. Most Reiki starts with the attunement but this is not ncessarily the case here. For example, you might feel the need to prepare your creativity altar (see below) before you really feel ready for the attunement. That's perfectly acceptable.

Who Can Use Creativity Reiki
Anyone, really, but especially....
The categories below are very generalized, and by no means imply a professional status. If you like to make scrapbooks, you can consider yourself an artist AND a writer. If you love to sing in the shower, consider yourself a musician. And so on. Be CREATIVE in determining where you fit on this list!
Feel free to add your own creative "title" to the list, if you feel so inspired!
What Is Reiki?
It's the Universal Life Force
Reiki is actually two japanese characters, rei and ki which together mean universal energy. The Reiki you may have heard about is a spiritual healing system first received intuitively by a Japanese man named Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It is traditionally passed down from a Reiki master in an attunement process, and there are usually three levels. Even from the first attunement a person may become a Reiki practitioner of what is commonly known as Usui Reiki. It is usually used to promote healing on all levels and I have personally found it very effective in relieving arthritic pain and anxiety. It can be used on both yourself and other people. In the last 10 years or so many variations have come into being, mainly by people who have been attuned to the Master level. I personally believe that people can attune themselves and develop their own variations of Reiki. At the same time I know there are times when self-attunement isn't feasible because of self limiting beliefs. I have always been a very independent, creative thinker and very open, so when I became attuned to Usui Reiki is clarified and strengthened what I had already been doing. I have also been attuned to Kundalini Reiki at the Master level and that process boosted me forward faster than I could have done by myself.
By the way, the kundalini reiki attunements are free and this is the link to them. The attunements were very effective and powerful for me, but I can't say what your experience will be. If you have any fear at all about it, I don't recommend you do it at this time.
What Is Creativity Reiki?
It's All About the Creative Flow
Creativity Reiki is about learning to work with the universal flow of creative energy. Its main objective is learning how to allow creativity reiki to flow through your body and mind, using a combination of rituals and lessons/exercises. Your hands play a very important role in the entire process. It is a practice I have developed myself based on years of working with energy, even before I was attuned to Reiki. I personally believe that the concepts of Reiki have been around for longer than we can imagine.
After you become comfortable with working with the creative flow then you learn to use it for specific purposes to aid in whatever "vessel" you want to pour it into, which can be anything from directing a movie (hey, we all have access to YouTube) to cleaning your closet. This is the equivalent of Level II in Usui Reiki.
Once you have mastery of the creative flow there will come a certain point where it starts flowing out to other people. It's a natural process. You will undoubtedly come up with your own variations of Creativity Reiki as well. At this point you can become attuned to the Master level, if you wish (though it isn't necessary) and start your own "school", teaching and attuning others.
Creativity Reiki is not based on Usui Reiki. It is a form of working with universal energy, i.e. "reiki", that I have developed after years of self development and experimentation. It comes to me so naturally I don't even think about it as being anything unusual. Through my work as an artist and a reiki practitioner Creativity Reiki has intuitively revealed itself to me as a way to help people work with their own creative flow.
The Creativity Reiki Attunement
Yes, it's free! Because you have already attuned yourself.
If you are looking for a regular Reiki attunement for the purposes of healing, I suggest you join the Yahoo group Reiki On where they do free attunements once a month. It's a great group and they take requests for distance healing treatments as well.
Create a Creativity Altar
It's the Physical Home of Your Creativity Reiki Practice
Creating an altar is the heart of your Creativity Reiki practice. It is a way to physically interact with the creative flow that is both pleasurable and useful. The act of working with an altar does several things but mainly it is a way to help you retrain your mind to allow creativity reiki to be of the most benefit to you. It is important to honor the creative flow and this is the best way to do it. I will explain this more in detail later, but for now you can find the instructions on how to start making your altar below.First of all, DETERMINE THE PLACE TO PUT YOUR ALTAR - An altar doesn't have to be huge. For the purposes of Creativity Reiki find some place in the space where you want to be creative, whether your are actively involved in it right now or not. For artists, a drawing table is the obvious choice; writers, the desk where you have your computer; home chefs, your kitchen, and so on.
Then add any or all of the following items. In my world intuition rules, so feel free to create this altar anyway you would like to. The guidelines below are designed to give you the maximum results.
- YOUR CREATIVE EXPRESSION - Choose something to put on your altar that represents your own form of creative expression. Pick something that you have actually created, or a photo or some other recording of it.
- YOUR CREATIVE TOOLS - If your altar is already in the middle of where you create it will be surrounded by your creative tools, but also pick one tool that you consider to be the most "sacred" to your creative expression.
- YOUR MUSE(S) - You may already be aware of your muse and you may have an entire committee of muses. They may be characters who invented themselves in your mind, guardian angels, goddesses, God, and even real people you either know personally or admire from afar. Communicating and developing a working relationship with your muses is a crucial part of Creativity Reiki and is discussed in detail elsewhere on this lens. There are many ways to represent your muse(s) on your altar, from figurines to magazine pictures to icons you've created yourself, etc.
- THE ELEMENT OF FIRE - Fire represents Creativity Reiki. It has the power to transform and burn away whatever doesn't serve you. It also helps you "cook up" ideas. You can use anything that symbolizes fire for you from a burning candle to a string of lights to a picture of fire, crystals, etc...
- THE ELEMENT OF EARTH - Earth is the most important element to have at your creativity altar. It is crucial to stay grounded when being creative and it can be the hardest thing to do. Ordinary rocks, a bowl of dirt or sand, a small potted plant, or pictures of landscapes are ideal. The more mundane, the better.
- THE ELEMENT OF WATER - Water represents flow and fluidity, but it also represents emotions. Your emotions are intimately tied to your creativity and both are easy to lose control of. What you decide to use as the container for your water is as important as the water itself. A bowl, vase, glass, bottle, are all good, as is a small desktop fountain. You should change the water daily. Pictures are good too, but make sure you choose an image that you can imagine being physically comfortable around. Very few people can handle the power of Niagara Falls or the ocean. A small stream or pond or even rain is more realistic.
- THE ELEMENT OF AIR - Air feeds the fire of your creativity. It also represents the world (and universe) around you, and your innate connection to all things. We will use scents to represent air such as incense, a scented candle (you see how close air and fire are here), a scented oil warmer, freshly crushed herbs, etc. The scent will instantly connect you with your altar throughout the day whenever you are anywhere in the area of it. This is important. If your altar is in an area where there is a breeze, wind chimes would be a lovely addition.
- THE PLANT KINGDOM - Plant life in all its forms is a primary symbol for Creativity Reiki. The reasons why is one of the Mysteries of working with Creativity Reiki. Fresh flowers, a potted plant, or dried herbs either in a sachet or dish would all be appropriate.
- THE ANIMAL KINGDOM - Like plants, animals are another important symbol in Creativity Reiki. What animal have you always been most drawn to without knowing why? If somebody says "animal" which one do you see in your mind's eye automatically? This is your Creativity Reiki totem animal guide. You can represent it with a figurine or stuffed animal or a picture.
- MUSIC - Arrange for a way to hear music while at your altar. If you're a musician you may want to create your own music, but if not try this important little exercise in intuition to determine which music to listen to. On slips of paper write down the names of music that makes you feel good no matter what. Can be individual tunes or CD's or playlists - you get the idea. Get at least 10 pieces of paper. Then put them on a pile on your altar and mix them up. Close your eyes and pick one. This is your primary music to listen to while at your altar. Keep the slips and repeat the process in one month. It's important to actually follow through on this and not try to override your intuition with your conscious mind. It sends a message to yourself that you trust your hands to know what they are doing, even when you don't consciously understand at first.

How to Use Your Creativity Altar
What's a Muse?
The Creativity Reiki interpretation.
Muses are sometimes seen as Greek goddesses or guardian angels. For our purposes I have defined muses as Beings of Creative Inspiration who are just a few steps ahead of us on our creative paths. Muses can be characters in your imagination and they can be human. You don't have to necessarily know the human variety of muse personally. They can be someone you admire from afar and/or someone from history.Your muses are your partners in the creative process. They are very much like you and are often messengers for other beings such as angels, fairies, deities, elementals, plants, animals, etc. Especially if you don't believe in such things. You and your muse(s) have a very close resonance. I see muses as being closer in matching vibration to us than our guardian angels. Sometimes we humans step out of our ordinary states for a short time and move into muse territory as well, becoming someone else's muse.
Muse Letters
Pour Your Creative Heart Out!
First of all you will want to buy or create (extra bonus points if you do!) a box to put your letters in. It goes on your altar.
Next, write a letter to your muse that is all about your creative process at the moment. It can be your dreams or current challenges, or your current project's progress, an outline of your workflow, etc. etc. Think of your muse as both a mentor and a personal assistant. If she/he/it (or them!) can't get you what you need, they have access to all the contacts you need. Go ahead and ask for things. Make a creative wish list.
Some of you will want to make your letters elaborate works of art. Others will type it up on their computer and print it out. And some will scratch a note on the back of a grocery store receipt. Whatever works for you, works for your muse. Remember, your muse is a lot like you and understands you exactly from where you're at right now.
A bit of advice: Some of you will be like me and want to make gorgeous masterpieces of your letters but not really have the energy in place to do it. Then you'll beat yourselves up about it. Here's the good news: You have the gift of seeing into the future. If you wanted to learn to use your intuition you would likely come to know things before they happened fairly quickly. But a lot of times it just gets in the way of being creative because you have such a clear picture of what could be. Start with where your at right now and trust that the muse will get you there to your ultimate vision.
When you're done with the letter, put it in an envelope and write a random date on it. Take a moment to file the envelopes in order every time you put a new letter in the box.
You may want to write a letter every day (that would be ideal), but I know how hard it can be for the creative person to stick to a routine like that. Do what you can. At any rate, check your "muse mailbox" every day to see if any letters are waiting for you. You will be surprised at how what you wrote speaks right back to you as though it's really from the muse in the first place. It might create enough momentum that you start to write more often. As will the things that start to happen in your real life that weren't before.
