Credit Score Breakdown

How to Improve Your Score

Most people feel trapped with their current credit report score but it is heartening to know that it's possible to see changes within a short period of two to three months. Credit scores change every time your credit report changes. While this change may be very slight, it can also be much more dramatic. Here are some tips to improve your score.
1. Only conscious/sincere efforts and a personal debt repayment plan will improve your credit report/score.
2. Your credit reports may contain errors or may have wrong information. Find out the errors/mistakes and take care to get rid of these negative mistakes and improve your scores.
3. Creditors look at the debt-to-credit limit ratio and the average age of your accounts. For this purpose keep old credit accounts even if they are not in use
4. Timely payments are the most effective way to improve your score as it is highest scoring element of your report.
5. Reduce your balances on credit cards to 75 percent or less of your available credit.

Following precautions may be helpful.

1. More inquiries on your credit report may mean/lead to lower your score so take care that any enquiry is made only when absolutely necessary. In case of multiple inquiries try to make multiple inquiries occur within a few weeks, so that they can count as one inquiry on your score.
2. Avoid opening new credit card accounts just to increase your available credit in the hopes of raising your score as it may have a negative impact.

Make sure that you are not the victim of identity theft/impersonation. If you are sure that you have never committed any act which can lower your scores then first of all try to find if some miscreant has used your name to get a credit card, open a bank account using your name. It is very difficult to handle such a worst situation and defend yourself from your financers/law enforcing agencies and prove your self to be innocent.
