Electronic and Digital Technology

With the development of electronic and digital technology, many new things have become achievable.  Diagnosing and curing terminal illnesses has become a reality that in decades prior were inconceivable.  Day-to-day life has become easier as technology has advanced. We now experience more convenient check-out procedures in stores, more effective modes of transportation and the creation of an immense assortment of gadgets that have caused our lives at work and at home virtually effortless.

At the beginning of the conception of the credit card, it was thought to be only intended for the affluent, but it has since become an every day convenience for not only the affluent, but also for the working class whose lives have become extremely hectic, indeed.  The credit card has revolutionized the way people spend and save their money, and it is no longer viewed as a status symbol, however, there is much more to this little piece of plastic , than most realize.

Credit Card 101

In order to maximize the potential of the credit card it is critical to first have a basic understanding of what precisely a credit card is. A credit card is a card that permits an individual to make purchases up to an amount predetermined by the lending institution of the said credit card. In other words, a credit card is an unsecured loan. Typically, the borrower must pay the entire sum borrowed upon receipt of the billing statement or the borrower can choose to make installment payments with interest affixed. credit card issuers are in the business of making money and the longer the credit card debtor (you) takes to pay off the entire balance, the more profit the lending institution stands to make on the original debt.

Because having a credit card is a legal and binding contract between the debtor and the lending institution, only those of legal age, and having the means to pay the amount they are borrowing, are permitted to have one.

Possessing a credit card nowadays is a convenience enjoyed by most Americans, and has become common place all over the world. Rather than having to carry large sums of cash, or a check book around, most people, will opt for a credit card instead. Using a credit card can also save time at the point of purchase instead of having to write out a check.

Know The Different Types of Credit Cards

Before deciding to build up huge credit card balances, otherwise known as debt, it is important to know what the different types of credit cards are. There are bank cards, debit cards, retail cards, gas cards, frequent flier cards, rebate cards, platinum cards, Canadians cards and secured cards, to name just a few.

Most credit cards come with either a fixed rate or a variable rate. Ideally, a fixed low interest rate is the better of the two options. I say ideally, because in 2006 President Bush pushed through a bill that deregulated the interest rates that the credit card companies are allowed, by law, to charge.

Because of this deregulation, even with a low, fixed interest rate, the credit card lenders have the legal right to change your interest rates at their whim and by law, only need to notify you in writing with your current billing statement. As long as you are paying your balances as you should, this should not affect you.

I say should because credit card companies, namely banks, will change rates without warning, even when you have never been late with a payment.

With the variable rate the interest rate will go up or down according to the current APR. In these unstable times, you could end out paying astronomic interest rates because of the fluctuating APR.

Two Basic Credit Card Types

Essentially, credit card lenders issue two types of credit card accounts. The first is the true "Charge Card". With this type of card, the balance must be paid in full upon receipt of the billing statement. It is not a credit card. You need to understand the difference. They do not charge interest fees, however; you will usually be charged an annual fee for the privilege of using the card. Sometimes you could also be charged a processing, sign up fee. Remember, credit card companies are in the business of making money and if they don't make a profit from interest fees, they will make it somewhere else. The American Express basic green card is one of these types of cards.

The second type of credit card account is the revolving credit card. The revolving credit card is what most people are familiar with. With the revolving credit card, the debtor has the option of paying the total sum borrowed upon receipt of the billing statement or they may elect to make monthly payments with interest being compounded daily, and added to the original sum of money borrowed. The borrower must sign a legal and binding contract agreeing to pay all monies accrued during the life of the card, including but not limited to, the predetermined interest charges (which as mentioned are subject to change), and any and all fees and penalties that may arise for as long as the account is active.

There is an option on either of the two basic credit card accounts. This option includes the individual and joint accounts. The individual account is where there is one person authorized to use the card and the same one person is solely responsible for repayment of the loan.

The joint account has more than one person authorized to use the card and more than one person responsible for payment. Should one party default, the other party would be held liable for the debt.

Incentive Credit Cards

The are many types of incentive related credit cards available today . These may include:
Balance Transfer Credit Cards

Low Interest Credit Cards Reward Program Credit Cards Airline Frequent Flier Miles Credit Cards
Cash Back Credit Cards
Charity Cards
Gift Reward Program Credit Cards

There are also specialized Credit Cards such as cards for:
Bad Credit
Prepaid Credit Cards

Self Evaluation For The Card That Fits Your Needs

Now that you have got a basic idea about the various types of credit card that are available for you to select, you will need to do a self evaluation on what type of card will be the right fit for you. Prior to applying for a credit card you will need to consider how you will be using your credit card. Will it be strictly for online purchases? Do you plan to use it for business only? Is the card for major purchases that you couldn't afford any other way? Is it for personal, emergency use only? Do you plan to use it for all of your purchases rather than carry cash or a check book?Credit Cards

If you do not plan on paying the full balance on the card every month, how much are you able to afford in monthly payments, interest rates and annual fees? Do you have a secure credit history or does your credit require repairing?

Once you have assessed your situation and have a better understanding of what will work for you, then it is time to begin your research. You will want to find the information you need that will accommodate your individual needs. You will also want to do a comparison of the credit cards that you have found in your research for the best rates.

You do not want to pay an annual fee, in fact you want to pay as little towards added fees as possible. If you have not damaged your credit, it should not be a problem finding a card without additional fees.

If you are brand new to having credit, in other words you have not yet established your credit worthiness, credit card companies may try to charge you a start up fee and an annual fee. Try to avoid these fees if possible. You can usually find one that will give you credit without the start up fee.

As a credit card user, you should try to always keep in mind that having a credit card is a huge responsibility. If not used with caution, you could end out owing more than you are able to pay back. Be aware that owning too much credit card debt can also damage your credit report, and create financial burdens that are quite difficult to repair.

They best advice that I can give you is to be sure to discuss your specific financial needs with your financial adviser or accountant before applying for any credit card. This may sound silly, but it can save you in the long run from over extending yourself because of not understanding the fine print on a credit card application. Your financial adviser will also be able to explain the consumer protection laws that are available where you live.

Learn to Protect Yourself

Even though the holidays are over, you do not want to let your guard down and start getting careless. The following tips still hold true all year long.

1. NEVER apply for instant credit in department stores. This is where the largest credit card theft originates from. It is at it's worst during the holidays when help is hired just for the season. Seasonal help is notorious for stealing credit card numbers and selling them.

If you want the stores credit card either apply on line or over the phone by calling the company. When you call, request an application.

2. When shopping for groceries, do not leave your handbag unattended in the cart. This is another popular way for thieves to not only steal your credit cards but to steal your identity as well.

3. Again DO NOT leave your handbag or purse unattended in the shopping cart. This is also a warning for when you have left the store and are loading your purchases into the car. While you are focused on loading the bags into the car and not on the cart with your purse, thieves have been known to pluck handbags right out of the cart like a pickpocket while you are bent over the trunk of the car.

4. When visiting a public restroom, DO NOT hang your handbag or purse on the inside hook of the stall you are in. Sad to say, but when you are sitting with your pantyhose down, thieves have been known to reach over the stall and grab the handbag, while you are unable to quickly get up to do anything about it. Once you are able to get up and out of the restroom, the thief is long gone with your handbag, credit cards and identity.

By just being careful and paying attention, you can save yourself much heartache and stress.

Also remember to keep the phone numbers to report lost or stolen cards accessible, so that you can immediately do so, if you should ever have the need to.

Identity Theft

LifeLock Identity Theft Prevention - Save 10%
Once you have secured you new credit card you will need to protect yourself against Identity Theft

Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in America and every year there is over $10 billion lost to identity thieves. This has given birth to a niche market of companies and products offering protection.

By now I know that you have heard all of the horror stories about Americans whose identities have been stolen. Every day, people just like you and me, are working for hundreds of hours over many years to get their lives back in order, kids are being denied student loans because someone has already ruined their credit, people are losing their homes because thieves placed mortgages on their credit that they never knew existed, and even innocent individuals are ending up in jail for crimes that they never committed. All because of Identity Theft.

Privacy Crises

Grant Hall, the author of Privacy Crisis, has written an amazing book. "Privacy is not just a philosophy for me. I've had to learn about it and practice it", states Grant.

Grant was forced to avoided investigators, for four years, in order to prevent a con artist from draining all of his finances, because of an unmerited civil lawsuit.

Grant was forced to learn privacy tactics to keep him out of all court appearances and escape the astronomical attorney and court fees. How much did he end out paying? Nothing!

That's right - nada, nothing! He was able to avoid all attorneys' fees and court costs! Plus, he had no judgments entered against him-all because of the principles and concepts that he describe in Privacy Crisis.

For the last 8 years, since the election of President Shrub, I mean Bush, we have been losing our Constitutional Rights, personal freedoms and civil liberties here in the USA.

Privacy Crisis is a book that every citizen of the USA should own as you never know when disaster will strike. Knowledge is power; having the right knowledge could save you in a time of crisis.

Most people don't have a clue as to what rights we have left and are at the mercy of expensive attorneys and corrupt politicians.

In the nearly 400 carefully researched pages of Privacy Crisis, you will learn how to:

* Lock out snoops from your credit files.
* Live beneath the radar.
* Escape stalkers.
* Outwit identity thieves.
* Prevent government phone taps.
* Stop criminals from hacking into your
computer.
* Bank secretly.
* Make money and assets invisible.
* Stop wage garnishments.
* Get a permanent driver's license.
* And much, much more.

All of this can be done legally, when you know how, and I'd say a good 80% of the population have no clue.

To prevent identity thief you can learn how to prevent anyone from accessing your credit bureau files, you can put an inviible shield around your assets that no one can penetrate.

Visit Grant Halls website, have a look around, order the e-book and learn Grant Hall's proven, modern, privacy principles and concepts that are all legal and doable in the U.S.A.
