Is Cribbage Board Collecting Expensive ?
The Cost of Cribbage Board Collecting
Answer: That's entirely up to the collector. Although you can find cribbage boards that sell for well into the thousands of dollars, there are many boards to be found at very reasonable prices. I know of one collector that purchases there boards exclusively at garage sales, thrift shops and resale stores and will never pay more than five dollars for a cribbage game board.
Your collection does not have to have an enormous price tag associated with it to be interesting. There are some collectors who collect only home made or hand made boards. They may not always be mainstream pretty, but you can certainly build a collection worth talking about for very little cash. Of course if your goal is to develop a collection that has a dollar value, you can't be blamed for that.

What If The Cribbage Board Is Damaged?
Answer: If the cribbage board is damaged or missing pegs it is still your decision what you collect. Many boards have minor damage such as dings, cracks, or pegs broken off in a hole. More serious damage could be a broken hinge on a folding board, a piece of trim missing from a more ornate board, or a drawer for cards or pegs is broken or missing.
Simple damage through wear and tear like dings and dents and and worn paint can actually add character to an otherwise benign looking board. Broken pegs can usually be drawn out with a tiny drill bit on an electric drill or Dremmel type tool and "New Cribbage Board Pegs" can also be found easily on line.
More extensive damage such as a broken or cracked board may be able to be repaired and you will need to decide whether you have the skills or ambition to deal with it before you make your purchase. Look your items over carefully before buying, especially at auctions. That said it can be very satisfying to purchase a damaged item on the low and bring it back to life by making these repairs yourself.
Cribbage Board Replacement Pegs
Wooden, Metal, Crystal Cribbage Pegs
Question:What If The Cribbage Board Is Missing the Pegs?Answer:Missing pegs is a common occurrence with vintage and antique cribbage boards. It's not necessarily going to make the value of your cribbage board worthless, however it's a bit hard to score and it misses the point if you don't have pegs to track with. You can always try toothpicks or bits of cocktail straws (handy if your playing at the pub), or of course a better idea may be to purchase replacement cribbage board pegs.
There are a variety of cribbage board pegs available these days. Made from metal, plastic, and wood, You can even find them topped with Swarovski Crystal. Team and school affiliations are also becoming increasingly popular.

How do I Display My Cribbage Board Collection?
Displaying Your Cribbage Boards
Answer: There are many ways to display your cribbage board collection with the most common being by hanging them on the wall or displaying them on a shelf using tiny easels to support them. A lot of how you will display your collection will depend on where the collection will be shown and how it will be housed. If your collection consists of a few dozen popular boards from the last two decades you may choose to simply store them in a box in a closet and display them only when they will be in use, If this is the case you can show off individual boards by alternating which you bring out for play.
Cribbage boards can be displayed as wall hangings. You can display your cribbage boards by mounting them in shadow boxes or wrapping simple wire frames around them to be hung on the wall of a game room, family room or recreation room. Be creative, you can string inexpensive boards around the room as a boarder, hang them in odd places throughout the room, or mount them in a precise geometric pattern to form a wall display.
Glass display cases are a great way to prominently display your more prized or visually pleasing boards. A small glass case set on a counter, shelf, or sofa table with even a few interesting boards can make a great conversation piece.
Corner shelves or corner cupboards are an excellent way to display your cribbage boards. The corners in a room are often wasted space and overlooked. When sizing up your options don't overlook the corners of the room in which you plan to display your boards.
The simplest way to display your cribbage boards is to bring out two or three at a time and have them arranged on coffee tables, mantles or desks throughout the dwelling or office environment making them accessible and inviting to your guests. There is no better way to display a cribbage board than to actually play a game with it.
