The Crimean War Research Society

Our Society exists to honour and remember those that fell in the war and to study the war in its entirety - from mainstream topics like the deaths from disease in the Crimea and the naval confrontation in the Baltic to little-known aspects of the war such as the British Army's refusal to deploy poison gas at Sevastopol, and the naval actions in the Pacific.

What the Society researches...

Scaling the Heights of the Alma; The Charge of the Light Brigade; the Soldier's Battle; Florence Nightingale; the Fall of Sevastopol; the incompetence of those in command; the endurance of the ordinary soldier; the Great Storm; the political wrangles in Constantinople, Vienna, Paris and London; the newspaper reporting and the new-fangled telegraph; the uniforms and the arms; the soldiers, sailors, camp-followers, spectators, businessmen and politicians; the effect on the military, industry and the man in the street; all of these and more are examined by the Crimean War Research Society.

Membership of the Society gives you access to hundreds of other researchers and students of the period; each with their own specialist interests and knowledge. Many are keen to assist in the researches of others, knowing that it might soon be their turn to be faced with an apparently insoluble problem. When you have joined the Society we hope you will also sign up for our online Members' Area to take advantage of our database of special interests and help offered. The Society is proud to number many leading historians amongst its members, and to publish their articles in the War Correspondent, our quarterly journal.

Please draw attention, that memorial of the died the English aristocrats in outstanding ATTACK OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE in Crimean War 1854-56 is in rather bad condition. The monument to them who died is savaged, the place is not run by the authorities or any one, everything is ruined, no memorial plates. he English historical of the Crimean War Richard Moore visited the place at the end of the last century and it was in excellent condition. Now it has changed. I saw the monument in London dedicated the Crimean campaign and it impressed.
The cemetery of fallen German soldiers of 2nd WW looks better.
If someone wants to be interested in this subject, don't hesitate to contact me. the pictures of the place I supply upon the request.
On behalf of the residents who estimate the history of the Crimea region..
    Sincerely,

does anyone have any info on Richard "Lucky" Dobson who lost 4 fingers in the Crimean War. The story has it that he met Queen Victoria who arranged for him to be given a job at Hampton Court Maze. He collected the gate money and instead of a wage/salary was allowed to keep the takings. He built a fortune from the thousands of sixpences he collected, and was later advised on investments by Sir Henry Ponsonby, the Queens Private Secretary, with considerable success. It is said that Dobson had been decorated. I would be most grateful for any info at all to assist my research into this story found in a 1934 local newspaper in Sussex.
