A New Dawn from a Dark Cell

This lens is about a letter of gratitude received by Criminon Rwanda Staff from one of the inmates that partook in the first Criminon program delivered in Gitarama prison, Rwanda.

When you read this letter, keep in mind that this is from a region which was caught up in a terrible genocide, and where reconciliation, though sought after was not considered possible.

New Hope in Rwanda through Criminon

A Word of Thanks from an Inmate in Gitarama Prison

Edouard M.
Cell: Kibirizi
sector: Rubengera
District: Karongi
West Province Gitarama, 4th February 2008

Subject: Acknowledgement of our trainers
Regarding the training I have done, I became conscious of how other countries are full of love & care for us. I know how to forgive others. I know how to bring about awareness in a conflict so that reconciliation can happen for both sides.
I can also use the truth when there are problems amongst people.

I can welcome the children of other people in my family and live with them
When I will go back (to my home), I will help my relatives and the people I know to reconcile with each other and with their neighbors, and pray together for our people, our leaders, and generally in order that our country remains peaceful in God.
Thank you very much for the excellent and enriching training!
E.M.

One of the Precepts tought by the Criminon program

As you can see in the letter written by the inmate, the Criminon program, which is secular in nature, assisted this man in restoring his own religious values.

One of the principles that the program teaches the importance of respecting the religious views of others, as illustrated in following video.

Respect the Religious Beliefs of Others

18. Respect the religious beliefs of others. The Way to Happiness is comprised of 21 precepts, each one predicated on the fact that one's survival depends on the survival of all others—and that without the survival of others, no joy and no happiness are attainable. In illustration of those precepts, the Church of Scientology sponsored the production and airing of a corresponding series of informational videos. They are presented in the spirit of the booklet itself, which is a roadmap to a happier life through values of compassion and caring that every member of a civilized society holds dear.

Wow, so man can be free. That's a concept many have been trying to talk us out of. Awesome program. More people should check this out if they want to do something about their environment.

This good news is appreciated. This program should be used in all prisons so we can truly help our criminals become better people and useful to society. How much would the worldwide economy be helped if this program was used? There would be a lot less crime and the savings to the taxpayers for prisons, courts, etc. would be huge. This would be a great way to reverse the economic downturn.

Amazing-that someone who has been born into a culture where the norm is death and retribution could have such a change in viewpoint and in their life. It's like telling someone who speaks Italian to now speak Chinese-a big shift in awareness and reality!

Beautiful and emotional video on respetcing other's beliefs.
