I have a confession to make. The 3 carat wedding ring I wear is really a CZ ring. You see, my daughter lost the little bag where I kept my jewelry, and in addition to a gold necklace/pendant and 2 semi-precious stone/gold rings, the little bag contained my wedding set.

I found a ring that I loved online, and not only did it look amazing, but the price was under $100! I had been feeling naked without my wedding set, so I bought the CZ ring. The only problem with my ring is that, with a 2 carat center stone and 2 half carat side stones, it isn't really believable that I would really have a diamond ring that big!

I love that cubic zirconias have the same sparkle as diamonds, and that the cost is a fraction of diamonds.

Cubic zirconia (or CZ), the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2), is a mineral that is widely synthesized for use as a diamond simulant. The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors. It should not be confused with zircon, which is a zirconium silicate (ZrSiO4).

Because of its low cost, durability, and close visual likeness to diamond, synthetic cubic zirconia has remained the most gemologically and economically important diamond simulant since 1976. Its main competition as a synthetic gemstone is the more recently cultivated material, synthetic moissanite.
