Crochet Criss Cross Stitch Patterns

I learned the cross stitch crochet back in 2008 and came up with a hat pattern. I shared it online here as the Free Skullie Crochet Pattern.

Many crochet teachers have joined youtube since 2007 when I first started using it as a crochet learning resource. Back then I think the only one I was aware of was Crochet Geek aka Teresa.

We all learn in our own unique way so it only makes since that we favor one method or teacher over another. Here are a few examples of this stitch along with how to make a cross stitch beanie.

In 2008 I made this hat for my son. It is simple and instead of using a double crochet stitch for the cross stitch I used a half double crochet. You can add a bit of color by changing yarn color during the cross stitch part and then returning to the main color for the remainder of the hat.

  • Skip the next stitch, yo

  • Insert hook through stitch, yo

  • draw yarn through stitch, yo

  • draw through 2 loops on hook, yo

  • draw through last 2 loops on hook, yo

  • insert hook in skipped stitch, yo

  • draw yarn through stitch, yo

  • draw through 2 loops on hook, yo

    I think I've heard of this, a long time ago, as "X" stitch - same as cross, of course... as I recall it was kind of fun! Nice lens, blessed.
