Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'd like to introduce you to some wonderful people who have helped me by critiquing my novels. The dedication it takes to critique a novel is no small thing. Novels take time to critique -- hours and hours of precious time. So I want to give a special shout-out and huge THANKS to some people who have helped me along the way.

I'm very fortunate to be part of two critique groups. One is for writers of middle grade and young adult fiction. The other is a group of writers, all over age fifty, who met on the NaNoWriMo message board in 2007. The two groups are very different, but both very precious to me.

Time to introduce you to all these writers who helped me so much!

The Novels

These are the novels that my groups have critiqued for me.

The Scribe of Irohila

...first draft finished in 2001

The Scribe of Irohila is an upper middle grade novel about a boy living in a remote forested village. When he discovers that people live outside the village, he determines to seek them out. This of course leads to an amazing adventure.

This novel is currently being submitted to agents.

River Girl

...first draft finished in 2003

River Girl is a middle grade novel about a girl whose father inherits a cabin in the Klamath River Valley in Northern California, in 1918. She's miserable about leaving her best friend in Antioch, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area, and the trip north leads to hardship and heartbreak. Over the course of many months she finds solace living near the Klamath River town of Happy Camp.

This novel is currently being revised for the fourth time.

My Critique Pals

These are those amazing writers who gifted me with their time and editing talents.

Norma

Thank you for helping me with my novel! You're a great critiquer!

Norma is one of the founding members of the Silverweb critique group. She was part of the group when I joined several years back. Norma is working on a young adult fantasy novel that I believe will be spectacular. Her writing style is very mature -- I love her voice and the details and descriptions she adds, so very naturally, to her fiction.

Nancy

Thanks so much; your critiques helped me a lot!

Nancy - known professionally as N.A. Sharpe, is another fantasy writer who has created an entire world for us to explore.

She created The Destineers, and is co-author of The Destineers' Journal of Fantasy Nations which was published in February 2009. She also has a picture book, If Wishes Were Fishes scheduled to be published in March, 2010. Nancy is working on a fantasy adventure novel series for teenagers.

Beverly

Thanks so much for taking the time to read and critique my novel!

Beverly Stowe McClure is a published author of novels for young adults. She must have a great work ethic because she's writing them one after another -- and getting them published too.

Beverly is a retired schoolteacher living in Texas. I had the honor of reviewing one of her recently published novels, Rebel in Blue Jeans.

Jennifer

Thank you! I very much valued the critiques you gave me!

Jennifer Porter is no longer a member of Silverweb, and I regret that because her critiques were very thorough and helpful! One of her short stories was recently published at Stories for Children Magazine, Lost: Space Monkey.

Gisele

Thanks for the chapter critiques you gave me way back when.

Gisele LeBlanc founded the Silverweb critique group, but has left to focus on another type of writing for children. She's currently the Assistant Poetry Editor at Stories for Children online magazine. She's also done a lot of writing -- including children's poetry, stories, and young adult novels.

Kai

Thanks ... your critiques have helped me quite a bit!

Kai Strand is a multi-published writer of short stories for children and teens, and I find her stories to be clever and compelling. She's also been working on some novels, though I'm not at liberty to tell you much about them. She has a talent for putting contemporary children in extraordinary circumstances!

Her blog is Strands of Thought.

Daniel

So glad you're in our critique group!!

One more person I want to give special mention to... Though Daniel Chase is the youngest member of Silverweb, he's also already had one book published, a memoir he wrote for and with his neighbor, Rachel Van Meers. You can find out about the book they wrote together at their website, Lost In The Fog.

Jean

Thanks so much for helping give the final draft the polishing it needed!

Jean Limongello is my friend from the other critique group who read the final draft of The Scribe of Irohila and made some helpful suggestions. I've been reading and critiquing one of her novels too! Besides writing suspenseful mystery novels, she writes articles and publishes the newsletter for her local chapter of Compassionate Friends. I met her in 2007 when we were both writing NaNoWriMo novels, and I'm so glad I did.

I love and appreciate all these people very, very much!

Some of the writers in my NaNoWriMo-writers critique group are fairly private people who might not want me mentioning them; also most don't have websites. However I'd like to mention websites for all those in the group who do have them.

Even though they aren't mentioned on this lens (yet?) I want them to know I love them all very much. Oh well... I think they already know that, but it never hurts to mention it again.

Thank you, Linda, for your kind words. The members of Silverweb are fantastic and supportive. Your advice on my work is invaluable. Someday soon we'll be reading Scribe, a lovely story that I'm honored to have read. Best of luck to you in all your writing.
