How to Crochet Plus Size Armwarmers

Free Step by Step Crochet Pattern for Arm Warmers

This is a pattern for Arm Warmers. [I originally made these for my plus size arms but you can really make these for any size arms.]

There are a lot of arm warmer - wrist warmer patterns out there and most are made for thin long arms. My chubby arms and wrists are large and get larger as they go up toward the elbow.

I came up with this pattern for myself but thought others might want to have a simple arm warmer pattern that they can tweak to fit their unique arms. :)

The Pattern

What you need to know

WristwarmerThis is a simple pattern using single crochet, Double crochet, Half Double Crochet and then a reverse single crochet.

If you are new to crocheting please visit my Crochet is Mom Lens for videos on how to do the above stitches.

You can also head on over to Tereas YOUTUBE(*mentioned in crochetiscool lens) page and take her Crochet 101 classes to learn all the basic stitches used.

Abbreviations:

sc = single crochet
sl st = slip stitch
hdc = half double crochet
dc= double crochet

I like this yarn because it is soft and washable. It will not felt completely like 100% wool yarn.

Step 1: Lets Make the Rectangle

sc is just a Single Crochet stitch

Using Natural Raisin:

Start out with a chain of 26. Then sc in second ch from hook. Single Crochet in each st across. (25stitches)

chain1 turn (each row)

Single crochet in each stitch across for 13 rows

Step 2: Making the Thumb Hole

Simple way to make a space

Slip Stitch in the first 8stitches, then single crochet in the remaining 17 stitches. (This is the hole for the thumb) chain 1 and turn

Single crochet in next 17stitches, chain 7, then sc in last stitch. Chain 1 turn

Sc in each stitch across. (25stitches) ch 1, turn
Repeat this 13 more rows.

You'll have a total of 26 rows.

Finish off

Step 3: Sewing it Up

Find your tapestry needle

Fold the 'square' in half matching up the 'thumb holes'.

You will now need to thread your tapestry with the yarn you will be using to sew up the arm-warmers. (I used natural raisin)

Sew up the sides of the arm warmers leaving the thumb space open.

Take the Contrast Color (I used natural moss):
Knuckles -
join with a sl st to any stitch, sc in each stitch around. ch 1 do not turn
reverse single crochet in each stitch around. Finish off

Bottom-
join with a sl st to any stitch, sc in each stitch around. ch2 (mark end)
hdc in each stitch around. ch1
reverse single crochet in each stitch around. Finish off.

Pre-Made Armwarmers

Just in case you don't want to make your own

Sometimes you just aren't in the mood to crochet - that's okay because our friends over on Amazon.com have a great selection of long arm warmers and short wrist warmers. I think the wrist warmers with the cute little cupcake is the best.
