A different form of art
It's absolutely amazing to see all these different colors and shapes.
It's so amazing!
There is not much I could say about this all - you really need to have a look at the videos. This is nothing somebody can just describe.
I would love to see this all in an exibition but I never heard that something like this is shown here in Germany. Or maybe I missed it.

You want to try your own shape?
You only need to know how to make a chain, slip stitch and single crochet.
I tried it and just started with a chain 4
1st row - 10 single croched, close row with slip stich
*2nd row - single crochets, increase one stitch in every two, close row with slip stich*
continue with * to * until the shape has the size or dense you want to have.
I used a thin cotton yarn and small crochet hook. Just experiment a bit with your yarn and crochet hook to see how many stitches you want to have in your first row. It's not important how many stitches you have. Just increase one stich in every two.
(increasing means that you work 2 stitches into one stitch of the previous row)
You could also increase one stich in every one or three. This will give a more or less denser result in the "folds"

I had to try it myself

I had to try it :)
It's not ready - but that's what I have so far. I increased every second stitch.
More rows were added

I think it looks really nice now :)
I'll stop here.

Another - different - try

I did this piece different than the white "coral".
I started with a ring of 6 chains, added 12 single crochet in that ring, closed the row with a slip stitch.
Then I added 3 half double crochets in each stich of the first row, closed the row with a slip stitch.
After that 3 chain, and then 3 half double crochet stiches in each stitch of the second row, closed the row with a slip stitch.
Continue....
So basically if you start with 12 single crochet for the first row, you will get 36 half double crochet in the second row, 108 in the third row, 324 in the fourth row and 972 in the fifth.
So I should have ended up with 972 stiches for the last row of this piece*. (Next row would have been 2916, than 8748 - so the amount of stiches is growing VERY fast ;)...)
The finished piece is about 8 cm wide and 5 cm high (2,5 cm = 1 inch).
* to be honest I had a few less than 972, because I must have made a mistake here and there ;) But it's not visible on the finished piece.

- Very Cool! I love to crochet but never thought of a crochet coral reef. May have to give this a try. I'm off to check out some of your other crochet lenses. Keep the good stuff coming.

- I used a similar technic (accidentally too ;)...) when I made skirts for my dolls when I was a child.
