Make a Statement With Unusual, Wearable Art Pieces

Note: My creations have been featured in various blogs, as well as magazines such as Woman's World magazine Spring's Hot Necklace Trend, and Jewelry Affaire (a fairly new, but quite prestigious magazine). You can find my crochet necklaces exclusively at LavenderField (www.lavenderfield.etsy.com)

, as well as Craft Land in Providence, RI ------------------------------------------------------------------ Recently I've become fascinated by crochet. And I'm not talking about your usual grandma's intricate crochet designs....... I'm talking about real simple, yet neat designs bursting with colors. It's amazing how with a few simple items and a little imagination you can make a statement and create unusual art pieces that you can wear

Mind you, crochet is not something I've always been interested in. On the contrary, I actually didn't use to like crocheting. My mother used to do lots of crochet stuff (I think she still does), and she tried teaching me once or twice, but somehow it just wasn't my cupa'tea. I'd prefer sewing, knitting, beading, and other crafts, just not crochet!

A Bubble is Born

Crochet Bubbles Necklaces

One day browsing thru a magazine I ran into a beautiful crochet table runner, featuring flowers and leaves in contrasting colors of fuchsia and lime green, and then I thought to myself "wow, I wish I could make something like that"

I realized at that very moment (it was very much a light bulb moment) that crochet was not confined to sweet, old grandma's untrendy designs, and that all it took was a little imagination and some boldness to make designs that would stand out from the crowd.

And that's when I started looking around on the net for tutorials and videos so that I could teach myself some crocheting.

I learned some of the basic stitches, and basic is all I need because that sorta opened a few windows in my brain and then some ideas started flowing in........like magic........

I started crocheting loops in different colors and sizes. And putting them together. "Wow, that looks nice", I'd think to myself. "I think I'll make a necklace". Then I started crocheting oval shapes, again in different colors. Then I'd combine my loops and ovals and different findings, gemstones, chains, etc.

The imagination juices just won't stop flowing! I got so many projects lined up waiting to become reality (if the day only had 55 hours instead of 24..... lol!)
