Grandmothers certainly did their share to popularize crochet designs.

Today, crochet designs in so many items is quite trendy! I'm happy to say that it is a bit of a resurgence of a by-gone era. Now is your opportunity to get in on the craze for handcrafted wearable art!

I'm pretty sure most people know what crochet is; but, just in case, I've included more info in my lens to quickly get you up to speed on this wonderful handcrafted art!

Crochet () is a process of creating fabric from yarn or thread using a crochet hook. The word is derived from the Middle French word croc or croche, meaning hook. Crocheting, similar to knitting, consists of pulling loops of yarn through other loops. Crochet differs from knitting in that only one loop is active at one time (the sole exception being Tunisian crochet), and that a crochet hook is used instead of knitting needles.

One of my friends on Squidoo, grandma_deal is a masterful crocheter who crochets hats for the homeless. She's written lenses about her crocheting hats and earth-friendly crochet shopping bags.

When I visited her crocheted bags lens, I was interested in getting some for myself to give as gifts. I asked her if she could do them in teal. She found the perfect color for a Jaguars fan! Linda crocheted 6 large earth-friendly shopping bags and one cute smaller bag with pretty dragonfly charms. Linda will soon be offering her crochet designs on Etsy!

    Interesting lens for this crochet crafter. Lots of interesting featured crochet artists and a lovely variety of items. I love looking at other crochet creations and admire the variety made by these talented artists .... everything from purses, to jewelry, to clothes, household items and cute toys. I specialize in items for children like plush 'critters' and toys, plus love to create crocheted designs in potholders.

    I taught myself to crochet about 30 years ago because I'm left-handed and no one could figure out how to teach me. I love to crochet. 5* & faved.
