I love to Crochet Hats. They are one of the easiest and quickest items to crochet so I decided to make a Lens about all the great Crochet hats out there.
I've included some of my own patterns as well as some patterns of others I admire. I especially like how one lady teaches crochet so you'll find her YouTube videos linked below.

Beginners Crochet Hat
A Very Simple Beginner Crochet Hat Using Single Crochet Stitch
This weekend I'm preparing to teach a beginning crochet class at the local craft shop so decided to look for a project that they could make with the single crochet stitch. I found the perfect pattern. It is a Lion Brand pattern called First Fall Crochet Hat and I used Lion Brand Cotton-Ease Yarn in Sand.
You can download the pattern on the Lionbrand.com site it is VannasChoice pattern 90380AD. Suggested yarn for the pattern is Vanna's Choice with a hook size J-10 6mm.
This hat is made in a rectangle and then cinched up at the top and the seam sewn down the side.
The pattern gives a hat circumference of 18 inches and although the yarn does stretch it is too small for my 23" head. My 11 year old was able to wear it though and his head is 21".
To make the hat larger add more chains. Instead of 55 as the pattern gives, chain what you think will fit your head. You might need to give it a bit of trial and error to get it perfect.
If you want this to be a slouchy hat just add more length. The patterns stops at 9" so keep going until 12" or more and you'll get the slouchy look.
Another option you can do with this hat is crochet in the back loops only to give it a ribbed look.

- Love this page! We have a wee one on the way (grandbaby), and I'm looking for a newborn hat pattern. I especially like the one in your intro image! Also looking for the softest organic cotton baby yarn I can find, so will check out some of your sources. I find it difficult to find organic yarns, especially sold in larger skeins.
