I have to say that as a rule, I prefer knitting to crochet, but crochet hats are so beautiful that I do make them from time to time. Thank you for the patterns here.

cool lens, love the hats especially the one of a cow
  • MomwithAHook Mar 16, 2012 @ 6:22 pm | delete
The cow is cute. I made a little baby cow hat in sample yarn - pink, grey, and purple.

Congratulations! This is crochet week and I am sending this in as the answer to my Quest. I hope that you will get extra points and also get to be a star on the front page.

I like the fact that you have added your own patterns and not just given us a list. I have enjoyed looking at all the different hats available to make and I will be trying some of these patterns for next winter. I am bookmarking this lens for then. Angel blessings for one very fine lens!
  • MomwithAHook Mar 16, 2012 @ 6:23 pm | delete
#IntNaCroMo Crochet week is my favorite time - lots of great activities centered around my favorite craft.

Precious hats. I am crafty, but I haven't mastered the crocheting thing yet. Your page gives me hope though. You are extremely talented! Great lens.
  • MomwithAHook Mar 16, 2012 @ 6:23 pm | delete
Crochet is not that difficult to learn. I'm sure you'll be able to add that to your crafty arsenal. :)

Great Ideas and great lens, I have the patience for some craft things that would drive others buts but this i just have a hard time. My sister would love this lens. Blessings. Besides, none of them can make a hat to fit me. I am an adult with a youth size head, lol.
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:38 pm | delete
You're like my husband. His head size is similar to our 11 yo. If they have your head circumference they might have a better time making a hat that fits you. Also, maybe adding elastic to the last row will help keep the hat on your head.
  • stewarc6 Mar 5, 2012 @ 3:17 pm | delete
My sister is having a baby so I'm really into looking at baby stuff right now, and I saw these knitted hats that were strawberries, and oranges, and grapes, so so cute, where the top of the hats were the stems, just an idea.
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:37 pm | delete
I like the knitted hats as well. I think the knitted versions do have the stems - a crochet designer might have added them already - I'll have to search them out.
  • nightcats Mar 4, 2012 @ 1:11 pm | delete
Great patterns. I'm sending the link to my crocheting friend.

  • LittleLindaPinda Mar 4, 2012 @ 4:45 am | delete
The hats are so cute. What a nice idea that CanterPR is making hats for chemotherapy patients.
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:36 pm | delete
Yes, I love crocheting for charity - it was one of my first projects - blankets for newborns. I do more hats these days because they are quick and I can usually make 2 - 3 from a skein of yarn.
  • arfrancis Feb 29, 2012 @ 6:59 pm | delete
Brilliant lens, love it, off to give it a try.
  • CanterPR Feb 29, 2012 @ 8:58 am | delete
Thank you so much for sharing all of these great patterns. I was recently inspired by another lens I read and I am knitting and crocheting hats for chemotherapy patients at my local hospital. I will definitely try some of these.
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:35 pm | delete
Chemo hats are definitely needed. Whenever I have extra hats I take them downtown to the Chemo center. We have a new local one too so I might have to double up on my crocheting.
  • Michey Feb 28, 2012 @ 6:51 pm | delete
You are a great crochet designer, and I like how you choose the color, my favorites are Mustache Beard Hat, Slouchy Hat (actually I have one of this), and Crochet Child Cow Hat.
I learned to crochet long time ago, from my Grandma, didn't crochet for years, so I am wandering if I try ... will come back to me...
    Great lens
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:34 pm | delete
Thanks for stopping by and letting me know your favorite designs. So many hats to choose from - which shall I make first? Oh, the stress of being a crochet addict.

Great lens. Really cute hats. My mom used to crochet blankets and scarves for everybody I loved it. She tried to teach me when I was a kid but I never caught on, as easy as it probably is
  • MomwithAHook Mar 10, 2012 @ 8:32 pm | delete
My mom tried teaching me too but as she was left handed I never caught on either. It wasn't until 1999 that I learned how to crochet.

Love the cow hat! Now if I was just better at following a pattern.... Maybe someday! I also pinned this lens, it's fabulous!
  • MomwithAHook Feb 27, 2012 @ 11:42 am | delete
Yes, that cow hat is just too adorable. I made one and it's a pretty simple pattern. You just make a brim and fold it up and sew it to the hat. Not sure how her pattern works but the one I bought does this. Sew some eyes and nostrils and you have yourself a cow beanie.
  • MommyTo2 Feb 10, 2012 @ 2:05 pm | delete

Love this page! We have a wee one on the way (grandbaby), and I'm looking for a newborn hat pattern. I especially like the one in your intro image! Also looking for the softest organic cotton baby yarn I can find, so will check out some of your sources. I find it difficult to find organic yarns, especially sold in larger skeins.

Those baby beanies are adorable! Love the intro photo. Too sweet. You have a gift for sure. Wish I had learned to crochet from my grandmother. I guess it's never too late to begin. Thanks for all of the wonderful patterns.
  • MomwithAHook Feb 7, 2012 @ 12:15 pm | delete
The patterns by designer Funny girl designs are the cutest hats for little ones. Her models are just as adorable too. You're right, it's never too late to learn to crochet.

Hi Sara -- stopping back by this terrific lens again to congratulate you on being featured on the Front Page of Squidoo today! One of these days I'm actually going to try and crochet a hat, although I've made one or two for my crocheted stuffed animals before. :)
  • MomwithAHook Feb 7, 2012 @ 12:16 pm | delete
    Thanks. I think hats for your little amigurumi's count as crocheting hats. Stop on by my blog, leave a comment and I'll send you one of the ones I make. {seriously.}
  • Tipi Feb 6, 2012 @ 9:11 am | delete
Returning with front page honors angel dust, I still got a chuckle out of that beard and mustache hat but it is the intro pic that wins a heart.
  • MomwithAHook Feb 7, 2012 @ 12:17 pm | delete
Aww, thanks @Tipi. Thanks for the blessings and now I know how I got on the front page - super happy about that. Glad I changed the intro photo this month - it is definitely one that captures the heart. Be sure to check out her other patterns - Funny girl designs.

I've seen a lot of Rastafarians wear giant crochet hats to keep their dreadlocks from falling out.
  • MomwithAHook Feb 2, 2012 @ 12:10 am | delete
Love dreadlocks but my hair just isn't the type to keep them well. I do love to make the dread hats though - it is from those with dreadlocks that usually challenge me to use colors I normally wouldn't use.

I'm in the process of crocheting my hubby a hat. Using my own design, but your head circumference guide is very helpful. He is deployed so I can't just have him try it on. Thanks!

    Wonderful hats
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:00 pm | delete
Now which one to crochet - that is the question.
  • KnittingOnCircularNeedles Oct 13, 2011 @ 12:21 pm | delete
I like the News Boys Hat - it's a fun, timeless design. I also appreciate your inclusion of the head circumference ranges for the variious hat sizes. As a woman with a larger-than-average head, it is nice to know whether the finished hat is going to fit before beginning the project. I'm not as experienced at obtaining gauge measurements with crocheting as I am with knitting, so this is helpful. Thanks!
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:02 pm | delete
Although knitting and crochet are similar some things are done differently - but that is the beauty of both crafts. How do you gauge hats for knitting?
  • awesomeamber Oct 7, 2011 @ 8:36 pm | delete
I woud love to know how to do this!
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:03 pm | delete
You could learn online with various tutorials on Youtube. It's best to have someone who knows how - that way if you get stuck, they'll be able to show you how to proceed further.
  • traveller27 Sep 15, 2011 @ 10:27 am | delete
I've always to try making something using a crochet pattern.
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:05 pm | delete
Some people find reading patterns a struggle. Once you understand the 'language' - abbreviations and such - it gets easier.
  • goldenecho Sep 14, 2011 @ 3:42 pm | delete
I love your moustache "hat" :-).
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:05 pm | delete

going to advise my sista to the "Funky Scrappy Hippy Dread Hat". She ll love that one, finally one that fits on all that hair! (she got dreads)
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:06 pm | delete
It was made specifically for dreads. I think for the scraps I had on hand - it came out quite nicely. Hope your sister makes herself one and wears it with pride.
  • Lindrus Sep 10, 2011 @ 12:18 am | delete
Great lens! I like to crochet as well, but I've never tried to do a hat. Maybe I will now.
  • MomwithAHook Jan 18, 2012 @ 4:06 pm | delete
Once you learn how to crochet in the round, increase and decrease - making hats will come easy to you.

  • MomwithAHook Aug 31, 2011 @ 4:41 am | delete
summer can be hot and not such a great time to crochet definitely a winter activity. I enjoy crocheting so much that I can make up a hat just about anywhere I go.
  • lucybrz1 Aug 25, 2011 @ 8:29 am | delete
Nice hats. I can crochet a scarf and slippers. Maybe I'll learn how to make a hat. It would be great to have one for winters.
  • MomwithAHook Aug 31, 2011 @ 4:40 am | delete
A scarf and slippers are definitely a start. Once you learn to crochet in the round - hats are pretty simple.

Thanks for commenting - I think hats are one of my favorite projects. So many people have a real talent at making patterns. Lately I've been into owls and kid hats with appliques.
  • KimGiancaterino Aug 14, 2011 @ 11:37 am | delete
You are very talented! I wish I'd saved all the hats and scarves my grandmother made for me.
  • MomwithAHook Aug 15, 2011 @ 1:32 am | delete
I know huh, there have been a number of items I wish I would have saved but didn't. I'm blessed though because with my boys - their great grandma make a baby afghan and we still have that. I still remember the day we received it as I look at it - this was way before I learned how to crochet myself PLUS this was her first time crocheting.
  • sousababy Aug 13, 2011 @ 2:23 pm | delete
I admire your skills so much. I never learned to knit or crochet and the only sewing I do is very basic (repairs and buttons). Lovely resource for all of those talented folks who do this. Thanks for sharing, Rose
  • MomwithAHook Aug 15, 2011 @ 1:32 am | delete
I'm probably closer to you with my sewing skills - the machine gives me so much frustration that I'd rather just hand sew.

Hi, I had a lot of fun going through your lenses. Brings back memories of my Gramma. She used to crochet a lot until she was 90. She ws a very loving woman, and would crochet bedsheets, bonnets, shawls and table runners for us as a send off gift when my siblings and I went to college. To this day, 16 yrs after she passed away, I still have all the things she lovingly created for me. I am happy to see someone doing this labor of love in this generation of technology. I bet your family sees a lot of love in what you do. Thanks a lot for sharing.
  • MomwithAHook Jul 19, 2011 @ 3:26 am | delete
So blessed to read your comment. My husband likes the hats I make him but my boys well not so much anymore that they are older. If I made more funky hats - which I do from time to time - ex. Mustache hat - maybe they would like the hats I made them.
Glad you have cherished memories of your Gramma.

  • BigGirlBlue Jan 23, 2011 @ 2:04 am | delete
Great ideas. As someone who has a big head I'm surprised that I haven't made a hat yet.
  • MomwithAHook Jan 24, 2011 @ 1:22 pm | delete
Hats are really simple and as soon as you start making them - you'll see - you won't be able to stop. Try it. Let me know when you do.

I think you look great in that new boys hat. I knit, but not as much as you crochet, wow, your hook must be going non stop :)
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:12 am | delete
Awww, thanks. Hmm thinking I might make another one in the near future.

Beanies are the best: style and comfort!
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:13 am | delete
I agree with you. Beanies are also the simplest to make as well.
  • Bluewren08 Nov 17, 2010 @ 12:43 am | delete
I haven't crochet for years....maybe it's time to have another go! Cool lens and great ideas!
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:14 am | delete
    Thanks. I think there is always time for crochet - I keep a hook and yarn with me when I go on errands. That way when I'm waiting, I can crochet. Yes, I'm that addicted. {smiles}
  • Tipi Nov 14, 2010 @ 9:10 am | delete
What a wonderful collection you have here and I just got sch a kick out of the mustache and beard hat, wonderful. I never learned to knit or crochet other than a hot pad but you are very talented and innovative.
  • lasertek Nov 8, 2010 @ 8:14 pm | delete
Great designs. This will help my mother make new hat designs.
  • eclecticeducation Nov 1, 2010 @ 11:17 pm | delete
Cute! I don't crochet, but sometimes I wish I did. I just don't have the patience for it.
  • MomwithAHook Nov 8, 2010 @ 9:06 pm | delete
That was me nearly 10 years ago - Now look at me. I'm rarely without a hook and yarn. Thanks for stopping by.
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:15 am | delete
I used to think that but being pregnant with my last son nearly 10 years ago - and the patience of the lady who taught me - changed all that for me. I am that way with sewing - I can do it but my patience is low with it so I just hire my super friends with awesome skills.

Love your hats. i must get my hook out of the mothballs and crochet again.
  • MomwithAHook Nov 8, 2010 @ 9:10 pm | delete
Moth balls? oh no -- yes yes do get that out and start crocheting again. I try to get in a little each day. You'll find me in the car waiting while for the kids or while taking others to do errands - just 5 minutes a day can get your far in your projects.

I always remember my grandmother with her bag of crocheting supplies by her chair. She would do it while we watched Wheel of Fortune at night.
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:18 am | delete
Great memory - thanks for sharing. I think that must be the way my boys will remember me - My mom, bad cook but always had a hook and yarn.

I am trying to re-learn crochet after about 20 years of not stitching at all. I really would love to make some of these super hats!

Thanks for the Blessings. Yippee, my first Purple Star.
  • Pukeko Jul 28, 2010 @ 6:07 pm | delete
I learnt to crochet beanies two years ago, and did them for an entire season while my kids skied. But I only learnt one style and did it over and over. Great lens. Congrats on your purple star.
  • MomwithAHook Dec 11, 2010 @ 8:20 am | delete
Beanies are quick and simple but cool because you can add appliques to them or brooches to give them a different look without a lot of work. I bet your kids loved having you make them hats for a whole season.
  • oztoo Jul 28, 2010 @ 5:25 am | delete
Great crochet hats and sooo many great resources. Congrats on the purple star too.
  • whitemoss Jul 28, 2010 @ 2:42 am | delete
Many years ago I made crochet shawls and scarves, but haven't done it for years. I might try again with one of your hats. A great resource lens, congratulations on the purple star.
  • Wednesday_Elf May 25, 2010 @ 5:03 pm | delete
I don't crochet 'hats' (my crochet leans more toward stuffed animals), but I truly admire yours and others who crochet hats. Maybe I should give one a try, as I'm thinking about moving from the South (where hats are seldom needed) to 'snow country' where I will definitely need a 'hat' or two. Thanks for the wonderful resources, particularly for patterns.
  • MomwithAHook Jul 17, 2010 @ 9:18 pm | delete
Thanks for dropping by. I enjoy stuffed animals as well. Here Cali. hats are needed as well but if we get a chance to head up into the mountains for the snow during winter a hat or two is great. I still enjoy hats the most as they are quick and easy for me to make. :)

I used to crochet all the time. I see the wonderful crochet lenses on Squidoo, especially this one (I could make a hat!), and just know I need to pick up the hook again! Love these hats! Lensrolling to my Bad Hair Day lens!
