Momwithahook's Crochet Story
Why I crochet and How I got started?
The Beginning:I started out with the basic stitches. (chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and treble crochet) With these stitches I made wash clothes, pot holders, beanies, and scarves.
Moving on up:
Once I mastered the above stitches I tried different 'specialty stitches'. One of the first specialty stitches I learned was the Puff stitch or 'popcorn' stitch. I found a pattern on a skein of yarn I bought for a Puff stitch baby blanket. After trial and error I finally figured out how it was done. This gave me confidence to try other patterns and eventually I became adept at reading patterns.
NOW:
I can master just about any crochet pattern out there. I love making hats of all kinds as well as cute kawaii little amigurumi toy animals.
Crochet Amigurumi Patterns
Bunnies, Bears, Tigers, and More
Amigurumi is the latest thing in crochet and I believe has made crochet come back to life in the crafting world. It is now what people start on that eventually gets them 'hooked' onto crochet as a hobby.
- Cuddly Crochet Creatures: Koala
- This is one that I completed a while back and I just love it. It is simple to follow and Sooo cute.
- Little Lamb
- This cute little lamb is posted on crochetville.org's forum. It is a cute little pattern of a Lamb. She also includes one of a Ram. These are part of a Set she is creating for her Noah's Ark set.
- Lady Bug
- I have a girl friend who is due with her first girl in a few days!
I made her some lady bug receiving blankets, so I wanted to come up with a toy to tie into the theme....thus, these ladybugs were born!! - Lazy Pandas
- These are my Lazy pandas. The pink one was suppose to look like she has her head cocked to one side....
- Little Buster Owl
- This pattern is not really a toy or amigurumi but I'll include it anyway as I think it is cute. It is meant to be a fridgie aka magnet or a Pin. You could also use it as an applique on a hat or scarf.
- Fun Fur Baby Penguin
- This is a pattern to crochet this baby penguin amigurumi. This assumes you know how to crochet, and know the basics of assembling amigurumi animals.
- Kawaii Baby Bee
- Very easy pattern developed by Michelle Wilcox.
- Mint Chocolate Bunny
- She's pretty quick to make friends!! love mint chocolate chip ice cream!!! So of course when i went to the freezer to eat some, the kids had eaten it all. For breakfast. So I went back to the couch to pout about it, and made this little cutie!!
- Moose
- In my opinion moose is the ultimate Christmas animal, so I thought of making one this season. Unlike most of my other projects that are knitted this toy is crocheted. Crocheting seemed like a logical way of making it since most amigurumi-type toys are crocheted. Besides, crocheting lends itself to making all sorts of amazing smooth shapes without much effort.
- LionBrand Owl
- One of our menagerie of amigurumi animals, this clever little owl is sure to be a favorite. **You will need to create a free account to view pattern.
- Owlet
- Baby Owl Pattern. This is very similar to the owl pattern I came up with after I saw the fabric Japanese pattern. Soo cute. Make a bunch.

Messenger Bag, Clutch Purse, and Shopping Bag
- Alice Mini Shopper
- This is a felted pattern so you'll need to do it in wool. You can use this bag for shopping or even to hold your current projects while you do errands and appointments around town.
- Hobo Shopping Bag
- This Hobo Pattern is from Lion Brand yarn. It can hold a lot! This is done in Thick and Quick Cotton. I wouldn't carry heavy loads because with cotton it does stretch. maybe try adding a bottom of thick cardboard. **You will need to sign up for a free account in order to view patterns
- Deco Ribbon Bag
- This crocheted bag was made using the black-with-white striped Deco-Ribbon color #102. Deco-Ribbon comes in 47 colors. For more information about Crystal Palace Deco-Ribbon
- Kids Sunshine Bag
- Sweet little bag with a smiling Sun. use this as a Gift bag or as a art on the go bag.
- Apple tote
- This is super easy but you do need to know how to read a chart. It's perfect for Autumn when you can go apple picking or even when you take a trip to your local farmers market.
- Library Tote
- We go to the library weekly and this is really a surprisingly sturdy bag to haul all the books my 8 yo chooses. This is by Lauras Left Hook -- she sells on Etsy.com
- Crocheted BackPack
- A very good tutorial with pictures of how to make this lovely backpack.
- Paperback Tote
- Now you can carry your paperbacks in style. handled book cover.
Crochet Arm Warmer Patterns
Fingerless Gloves
- Granny Square Wrist Warmer Fingerless Gloves Wrist Band Free Pattern
- A crocheted granny square style decorative wrist band. Crocheted with worsted weight yarn. Free pattern.
- Rebuilding - Crochet Beaded Wrist Warmers Pattern
- String required number of beads on thread. I recommend using a beading needle - it makes it MUCH easier! Don't forget this step, because you CANNOT string the beads on later - at least, not easily!
- Crafty Beaver: Wristwarmer pattern
- Pattern is worked from knuckles towards elbow.
If you are wondering I used a 100% wool from a recycled sweater. - Memphis Fingerless gloves
- Naturally Caron - Designed by Kim Rutledge Very pretty long arm warmer in a sweet shell stitch.
- Boys Crocheted Ninja gloves
- Boys Crocheted Ninja Gloves - I have a hard time finding little things to make for boys so I came up with these. My son doesn't like mittens and he isn't thrilled about gloves so I designed these to keep him semi-warm. He thinks they are Ninja gloves and won't go outside without them.
- Charleston Fingerless Slouch Gloves
- Naturally Caron - designed by Kim Rutledge This glove uses the specialty stitch ' slanting cluster'.
- Camo Fingerless gloves aka arm warmers - CROCHET
- Camo Fingerless gloves aka arm warmers - CROCHET - My son loves it when I crochet things for him, and Friday he seen some of my variegated yarn and asked if I could make him some camo gloves with it.&nb

Crochet Hat Patterns
Ear flap, Helmet, Skater, Hippie, Newsboy and More
- Kristen Earflap Hat
- playful tasseled hat, crocheted in a beautiful rich color, is sure to brighten even the grayest day this winter. It's quick, too! Double crochet, a large hook, and a lovely wool all combine to create a delicious fabric that proves something doesn't need to be difficult to make a statement.
- Peruvian Hat
- Hat is worked in the round; join each rnd with a slip st to first st (center back of hat). Earflaps are worked down from beginning chain in rows, after Hat is completed. Work Chart using Fair Isle Technique.
- Ridiculously Huge Pom Pom Hat
- Before you start, you should know that this entire hat is oversized, not just the pompom. I made it so that someone with lots of hair or, say, dreads could wear it. If you want it smaller, just skip one increase row (which will also make it a little shorter) and maybe adjust the earflaps so they start with 7 sts instead of 9.
- Ear Flap Hat by Drops Designs
- Crochet DROPS hat with ear flaps in 2 threads "Silke-Alpaca"
" - Either we want it or not - winter will come this year again. Let it be just a bit more fun to be out there with this nostalgic cap" - Ear Flap Hat
- Ear Flap Hat - These are certainly popular this year. Now you can just make one of your own. Be adventurous use some wild colors. Get noticed on the ski slopes or where ever you go. The original pattern calls for Bernat Krystal but you can use Red Heart worsted weight or whatever will give you the below gauge.
- PDF - Baby earflap hat
- This is a Medium/Large Preemie Baby hat. Pattern also includes a pattern for preemie booties.
- Helmet Ear Flap Hat
- This season's fashion statement in headgear can be crocheted in one evening.
Knitted Measurements 21" around crown (adult medium) - Flappy Ear Flap Hat Pattern by Chloe Nightingale
- I've been fond of ear-flap hats ever since I first saw one in an Alice Starmore knitting book. Although I've never gotten around to knitting one, I've crocheted loads. The hat band, which can be crocheted on its own if you're just after an ear-warmer/headband, is done in front-post double crochet to create a ribbed faux-fair isle-style. If you're like me and you have loads of partial skeins lying around, this is a great way to use them up.

Crochet Prayer Shawl Patterns
Friendship Shawls and Wraps
- Prayer Shawl by Lion Brand Yarn
- *You must sign up for a free account to view this pattern* This is a very simple Prayer Shawl Pattern. I used this pattern for a Peace Swap and sewed the word 'Shalom' onto it as well as the Peace Symbol.
- Prayer Shawl Instructions
- Welcome to the Prayer Shawl Ministry. Whether they are called: "Prayer Shawls", "Comfort Shawls", "Peace Shawls" or "Mantles" just to name a few; the knitter begins each shawl with prayers and blessings for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout th

Crochet Slippers Pattern
Keeping those toes Toasty Warm
- Crocheted Sneaker Slippers
- New, Easy Crocheted sneakers pattern.SIZE is for a foot length of 9 to 10 inches. I don't have time right now to do patterns for different sizes, so I would suggest for larger sneakers, use a larger hook size. I wouldn't go any larger than a size 6.00 mm (J-10 US). For smaller slippers, use a smaller hook. I wouldn't go any smaller than 3.75 (F-5 US) as it may be too difficult to work with. You could try a sportweight yarn with a smaller hook for even smaller sizes.
- Snow Kissed Slippers
- Special Stitch: Long Half Double Crochet LHDC: YO hook ,insert hook in the skipped st one row below the row that you are working on, draw up a loop, YO and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
- Moccasin Slippers
- Please Note: As this is a new pattern, there could be some typos. Picture Tutorial on How to crochet these fun Moccasin Style slippers.
- Oriental Style Slippers
- This pattern fits a mans size 11, as I made these for my son. Adjust the pattern accordingly for the size that you need.

Please post pics here if you whip up a pair! - Easy Crochet Slipper Pattern (baby)
- This past weekend I decided to make some slipper socks that are really easy to crochet. I made pairs last year for my mom, sister, husband, and myself. I've decided to make more to just have at our door so that visitors can put them on in the winter months. I was inspired by a few things on Friday...
