I really like to cook in a crock pot. Not so messy when you use the liners in them.
  • GeekGirl1 Dec 9, 2011 @ 9:58 am | delete
I use my crock pot 3 times a week probably. I love the idea of your moms green bean recipe, I am going to try that.
  • Netlexis Nov 5, 2011 @ 2:22 pm | delete
Love my crock pot, especially in the winter. I'm going to have to give those green beans a try. Looks mighty good.
  • fanfreluche Nov 3, 2011 @ 11:54 am | delete
I do. Crock pot slow cooking allows the flavor to expand and mix, making all dish better.

I heard a lot of good things about Southern cooking so hmm I think I will try your roast beef recipe and then put some buttered baby potatoes to go with it. I'm getting hungry.

great lens! Thanks for sharing. I am a newly wed and would love some new recipes to try...I'm not a very good cook to begin with so easy is good with me! :)

Great Lens! I asked santa for a new crock pot this past Christmas but, I didn't get one. The one I have now was a wedding present (16 years ago). It's starting to look a little rough. I guess I had better be a good girl this year so santa will bring me one.
  • stargazer00 Nov 8, 2009 @ 2:21 pm | delete
I don't use my crockpot as much as I should. Your recipe for Barbecue Beef sounds wonderful! Blessed!
  • Ramkitten Oct 26, 2009 @ 9:48 pm | delete
I don't know what I'd do without my beloved crock pot. We'd starve, I tell you. Or, well, we'd be eating a lot more cold food, at least. Green beans are honestly not something I'd ever thought of cooking in the crock, but I'll have to try this.
  • K_Bellamy Oct 22, 2009 @ 11:03 am | delete
Sounds like I'm going to have to add some Cavender's to my spices and seasonings. And, try your crockpot green bean recipe! Sounds yummy.
  • rms Sep 14, 2009 @ 1:52 pm | delete
    Yummy!
  • HorseAndPony Aug 28, 2009 @ 6:39 pm | delete
Great Lens. I am the Crockpot Queen. I just make my recipes as I go. My family always wants names for the meals so they can request them. I told them.... "They are the following: Slop in the Pot 1, Slop in the Pot 2, .....". They did not think that was funny. I only cook one fancy meal a year, on Christmas Eve.
  • Susan52 Aug 14, 2009 @ 10:16 am | delete
Oh, yes, I love my crockpot! Mine is a smaller version, perfect for two. I like to season up a small chicken and "roast" it in the crockpot. It rivals the rotisserie kind from the grocery store!
  • CoolFoto Jul 31, 2009 @ 1:34 pm | delete
I enjoyed my crockpot when the children were young and I was cooking for 4 people. It is one of the easiest ways to cook.
  • steveuk Jul 7, 2009 @ 3:09 am | delete
I love crockpot food as well, it just cooks away slowly and tastes well just heaven :)
  • Janiece Jul 6, 2009 @ 10:44 pm | delete
Yes, I very much enjoy using the crockpot! It's great for taking food to a potluck dinner, because you can plug your crockpot in there and keep the food warm until everyone's ready to eat! It's also great for days when we have to be out of the house all afternoon, or family members need to eat at different times!

5* and lensrolled to my Cinnamon Apple Baked Beanslens.

BBQ crockpot = heaven. I'd never turn down a good crockpot meal, these all look great.
  • GypsyOwl Jun 29, 2009 @ 4:26 pm | delete
Working from home, the crockpot and the breadmaker are my favorite kitchen helpers. I can focus on working and still have an amazing meal ready to serve up at the end of the day. Love this lens!! 5* and lensrolling to my save money every day lens

When I was a single working mother, I don't know that we'd have survived without my trusty crock pot - I was soooooo tired when I got home and got the kids picked up from the sitter, there's no way we'd have eaten as healthy as we did with crock pot meals. Great invention, and your recipe for crock pot beans made me hungry. Good job!
  • ottoblotto Jun 21, 2009 @ 5:04 am | delete
I love my crockpot! Thank you for your many blessings this week. I am incredibly grateful.
  • TheGreenerMe Jun 18, 2009 @ 7:33 pm | delete
I have a crockpot but I never use it. I need to, I'm always in a rush -- it'd be good to just let it sit and have the meal be done in a few hours. Thanks for the reminder Joan!

In the South, especially right after the depression, everybody cooked with fatback. I quit using it when I was on Weight Watchers the first time -- back in the 1970's! lol Nothing on earth tastes that good, but oh so fattening! Wikipedia says "Fatback is the layer of fat along the back of a pig, used as a cut of meat. It is often used to make lard. Fatback is a traditional part of southern U.S. cuisine and soul food, where it is used for cracklings or cracklins, and to flavor stewed vegetables such as greens and black-eyed peas. "

I'm a HUGE fan of Cavender's, and I always buy a lot to bring back to China with me! I use it on potatoes, homemade salad dressings and dips, soups, grilled meats, almost anything!
  • sandyspider May 13, 2009 @ 9:24 am | delete
I haven't heard of Cavender's before. I'm not sure if I had even seen it in the stores. I will have to look for it. I love crockpot food. It is so easy cooking. Great lens.

I only recently got a crockpot and love it. the beans sound great but I never heard of Cavenders before... think I'm going to have to invest in some!!
  • JaguarJulie May 12, 2009 @ 9:20 am | delete
Ah, memories! Yes, that Rival crockpot -- I think for all of us newlyweds it came as a wedding gift -- I know my first one did. Probably from one of hubby's relatives. Not so long ago, I ventured into buying the large oval crockpot to tackle a turkey. Yep, southern style BBQ is perfect for a crockpot.
  • ElizabethJeanAllen May 11, 2009 @ 3:42 pm | delete
When I do cook, which is rarely, I like to throw some things into the crock pot and let it simmer. With a crock pot and a few ingredients, you can turn out a great meal without a lot of work.
    It works for me.
    Thanks for sharing.

  • lwhitelaw May 8, 2009 @ 3:14 pm | delete
I love my crockpot but I don't use it too often. I guess it's that whole plan ahead thing. On a typical day, my hubby will come home from work and ask what's for dinner and I say "I don't know". And, then I go an whip something up that's usually not as good as when I put some time and effort into it. But, I love how with a crockpot, you can throw everything in and have a delicious meal at the end of the day - I need to get in to the habit of using it that's all and thanks Joan for some great ideas on what to do with the darn thing. BTW - what's Cavender's?? I'm not sure that we can get that here in Canada but if you let me know what it is - I might be able to find a substitute here.
  • alteredkat May 8, 2009 @ 2:33 pm | delete
I need this! I have a crock pot but rarely use it due to too little experience and not enough recipes...I do love the feature of "stick a lid on and forget about it!" 5* & thanks!...I think you just gave me a dinner idea!
  • Joan4 May 8, 2009 @ 2:07 pm | in reply to mukunda22 | delete
Cavender's is a mixture of Greek spices. Available from Amazon or at your grocery store. You can click on the Cavender's in this lens and read all about it! A friend recommended to me years ago, and I cook with it constantly! and oh it smells so good!
  • Heather426 May 8, 2009 @ 1:37 pm | delete
I love my crockpot! In fact, I have 2 little ones too, for sauces, etc, so I won't burn down the house.
Great recipes here. I will try the barbeque one for sure...I cook southern too and can't wait to try that one.

Oh, my crockpot is an old one, but a new one is NOT on my list of wants. In fact, Joan, mine may well be a hand-me-down from you! I love it! Absolutely will not do a pot roast any other way! (Yes, searing in the black skillet..and sprinkling with garlic salt are my secrets as well as having a great butcher who cuts the perfect chuck roast!) Thanks for a fun lens! Betty

You know I am known for my Blackened Green Beans. No, they aren't blackened with seasoning. They are blackened from burning. I just have no patience and get busy doing something else. Therefore, I think I will cook them in the crockpot the next time. Won't my hubby be surprised! Great lens.
  • Superwife May 8, 2009 @ 1:05 pm | delete
yumola Joan! I have never done green beans in the crock, that's a must do :)
