crown moulding? EASY

i'm making this page about crown moulding because you can do it yourself instead of paying a finish carpenter 100's of dollars to do it for you. in just a short time and with practice of the techniques i will explain you will wonder why you don't do this proffesionally!

An overview

I will show you how to measure, cut, cope, and fit crown moulding perfectly every time, with simple common sense terms that everyone can understand.

Materials you'll need

simple tools to improve youre home

Tools you will need are: tape measure, miter saw( hand or electric), pencil, coping saw, a short ladder, crown moulding, common sense, and a little patience

Step 1:

measure the lenth of the wall where the crown moulding will be installed, about three inces from the ceiling

Step 2:

transfer the measurement to the BACK of the moulding, at the bottom, going from the square end of the piece

Step 3:

if you have an electric miter saw, most newer saws that are compound miter(swing at the bottom and the back) have markers at odd degrees. These are the key to cutting crown. Set the bottom and the back of the saw to these odd angles (about 33.9 and 33.2) and lay the crown face up on the saw

step 4

if you have a regular electric miter, or a handsaw, place the crown in upside down and backwards, and cut on 45 degree angle
