Together We Can Stop Animal Cruelty

Some people don't eat animal products because they don't taste so good, but I think the main problem why they don't eat these products is animal cruelty.

If you're asking yourself, "Why on earth should I go veg??? If only one person stops eating meat, that won't change anything." Well, I guess one person can't change the animal killing, but if you think like that "If I stop eating meat, I will help myself and animals." and soon you'll realize that you're not alone! Many people will start thinking like that and one day, when there's going to be millions of people, that will be thinking like that, god knows, perhaps the food factories will stop producing so much meat.

Now take a look at the picture. What's your first thought? How would you feel if animals were eating us?

What about me?
I'm not a veg, I eat animal products like milk, butter, cheese,... But I try to reduce as much as possible. I also don't eat a lot of meat, because it doesn't taste so good. I enjoy eating vegetables and fruits right from our garden, that's soooo refreshing!

That's the worse thing I can ever imagine. Me with a fur coar. It gives me creeps!

Before you buy that fancy fur coat, think about how many animals were killed just for one coat...

Here are some facts:

The Price of Fur
The real price of fur must be measured in deaths--not dollars. To make one fur coat you must kill at least fifty-five wild mink, thirty-five ranched mink, forty sables, eleven lynx, eighteen red foxes, eleven silver foxes, one hundred chinchillas, thirty rex rabbits, nine beavers, thirty muskrats, fifteen bobcats, twenty-five skunks, fourteen otters, one hundred twenty-five ermines, thirty possums, one hundred squirrels, or twenty-seven raccoons.

A Dying Industry
Every year, the well-organized fur trade spends millions of dollars to glamorize fur coats and accessories and to mask the real price of fur: pain, mutilation, and death for millions of animals.

Trapped in Agony
There are several methods used to trap animals in the wild. The most common is the steel-jaw leghold trap. Animals caught in a hidden steel jaw trap suffer a slow, excruciating death. The trap snaps down on the limb of an unsuspecting animal, sometimes breaking the limb. The trapped animals often freeze to death or are attacked by predators from whom they cannot flee. Many frantically chew off their own legs to escape the agonizing pain. If they are still alive when the trapper returns to the scene, they are bludgeoned or strangled to death.

The Horror of the Ranch
Animals raised on ranches are kept in cramped confinement and deprived of anything resembling a natural life, until finally they are killed, often by crude and painful means. Methods used include gassing, suffocation, or electrocution through the mouth and anus so that the "product"-the pelt-is not singed or stained with blood.

Nothing Natural about Fur
In the face of causing such notorious, unnecessary cruelty to animals, furriers desperate for positive things to say about their product often resort to the claim that furs are "natural." In fact, turning an animal's skin into a coat involves preserving it with toxic chemicals, such as formaldehyde-a known carcinogen-in order to keep the carcass from decaying.

Have you changed your mind buying a new fur coat?

Ninety-four percent of animal testing is done to determine the safety of cosmetics and household products leaving only 6% for medical research!

Can you believe that?!?

I use natural cosmetic that isn't animal tested. I can't imagine, how can people be so cruel to animals. Think for a while... What if you were on their place and be tested with unknown chemicals. Would you feel good? Could you live a life like that?

Stop buying animal tested cosmetics and help these poor animals! They have feelings too, you know...

Most of the animals that are used in testing are bred just for testing, but many others come from the pound. Mice, rabbits, dogs, guinea pigs, cats and monkey's are the most commonly used animals for tests.

Adopt a cat or a dog from a shelter. You have to give them a chance and I'm sure they're going to prove you, that they are well behaved, adorable and kind.

A lot of people buy their pets in a pet store or from people that have specific breeds. "Why should I give them money, if I could get a pet from a shelter. I'll save a life and get a wonderfull pet."

Here in slovenia, animals from shelter don't live long. They have 30 days to get adopted and if noone adopts them, they are killed. Shelters are full, a lot of dogs and mostly cats die, because nobody wants to take them.

Have you already got a pet and would you still like to help these animals?
Castrate or sterilize you dog or cat, so they won't reproduce. You won't have any more troubles with little puppies or kittens. A lot of people, who have little cats or dogs, just throw them on the street. They JUST DO THAT. Can you imagine? What if YOU were thrown on the street or in a garbage can.. How would you feel?

I think the answer is clear.
These homeless dogs and cats are taken to a shelter. I pray for them and I want that you give them a chance. That's all what they want.

Unfortunately, there is no quick fix for animal abuse, but there are so many things we can all do to help. None of them will make animal abuse disappear tomorrow, but every little bit helps lower the risk further down the road.

And you don't have to be an animal "fanatic" to do it. You don't have to be a member of every animal rights organization on earth. There are so many things "regular"people can to do to have an impact...

1. Take care of the animals you have, and encourage others to do the same...
2. Begin educating other people. Perhaps they don't know so much about animal cruelty.
3. Donate to the organizations, that are fighting for animal rights.
4. Volunteer/Donate to a local rescue shelter.
5. Be creative. If you have a little extra time, help the rescue shelters organize car washes, bake sales, whatever else you can think of to help them raise funding for the work that they do. With a group of people working on it, it doesn't need to consume your life.
6. Don't use animal tested cosmetics.
7. Stop eating animal products. Or just try to reduce.
8. Adopt an animal from the shelter.
9. Don't wear/buy fur clothes.
9. Live in harmony with animals, remember that they have feelings.

Just a handful of motivated people (or even one person!) can be enough to make a big difference in the lives of animals in the community.
