Martinique: A Little Bit Of France In The Caribbean
If you've been saving your Euros since your last trip to Europe, this is the time to use them. Martinique is one of the 26 regions of France (although an overseas one) and as such is actually part of the European Union.
Like the rest of France, its official language is French although the majority of the people speak a creole version called Creole Martiniquais. This island, along with the French speaking island of Guadeloupe (also a region of France) brings France a little closer home.
This lens is one of a series that the author is providing on over twenty cruise destinations in the Caribbean.

As with the other overseas departments, Martinique is also one of the twenty-six regions of France (being an overseas region) and an integral part of the Republic. As part of France, Martinique is part of the European Union, and its currency is the euro. Its official language is French, although many of its inhabitants also speak Antillean Creole (Créole Martiniquais). Martinique is pictured on all euro banknotes, on the reverse at the bottom of each note, right of the Greek ???? (EURO) next to the denomination.
Martinique - A Warm Welcome (Tourism Video)
Martinique - A Warm Welcome
Martinique is truly "a little bit of France in the Caribbean Islands." Martinique exudes a distinctly French feeling -- in the excellence of its Caribbean cuisine, the beauty of its language, the grace of its streets and gardens. Yet Martinique has a cachet all its own, an endearing West Indian warmth in its personality, a special spice in its Caribbean music and dance, its local dishes, and its way of life. Martinique is an island with style.
