MY TRIP TO ALASKA
I want to talk about this place on earth, because I was working 8 years on a cruise ship and I saw so many places you cannot imagine . I am very happy that I had the opportunity to do that and I decide to talk about it because they are a lot of people asking me: What was the most beautiful place you have been ? What is your favorite place? Where would you go back? And my answer to that is Alaska.
All aboard!!
I start back in 1994 on a old cruise ship named Regent Rainbow, we had for the first four month short cruises from Tampa. Cozumel and Key West. It was fun and the people were coming in vacation so everybody was happy. After, we start to cruise in Alaska, it was may I think, from Vancouver, all the way up to Ancorache .I really thought I will have like 8 months boring days and nothing to do, but was way different than that. The weather was gorgeos, fresh and clean air, sunny, just good to go sightseeing. There are so many places to visit and do for so many kind of people. If you like shoping, biking, hiking, history or just chill down in an old bar from years ago, that is the place to go. And the people over there are nice and cool.
The places to go
SKAGWAY
Here we took a trip, just our-self, my boyfriend back then, now my loving hubby, up in the forest to a very old lake (not too much water left), We walked and climb about an hour and a half, it was quiet and humid, we could hear the dry leaves moving with the wind. It was a little bit scary but unforgettable.
Another time we rent a bicycle and ride around town, had a picnic and we found a very old cemetery, Gold Rush Cemetery wich includes the graves of Soapy Smith and Frank Reid, as well as many other graves from the gold rush era. "Soapy" Smith was an infamous criminal and con man of Skagway's early days, who died in a shootout with Frank Reid.
KETCHIKAN
Here you can find the best fudge in the world!!! It is so yummy that I don't have words about it.Ketchikan is known throughout Alaska as a friendly, hard-working town.
Wildlife sightings are an everyday experience here and a visit to Ketchikan offers many options for viewing of majestic bald eagles which are easy to spot in shoreline trees or near salmon streams.Black bear are common throughout the region, along with brown (grizzly) bears Boaters and hikers sight them often, especially when are hungry for some salmon and you don't want to meet one face to face. And here in our way to Ketchikan I remember I saw so many orcas, humpback whales and sea lions, it was magic.
Also you can do some kayaking, which is a lot of fun and adventure.
Juneau
Alaska's capital is the third largest city in the state.Glaciers are mysterious and their eerie blue color can't be seen anywhere else but in the dense ice of a glacier. And while they appear to be sitting still, they are in fact constantly moving, flowing downhill out of the mountains like rivers. It is this constant movement that gives glaciers the power to shape the landscape. And when you go on a cruise every cruise ship is going to take you next to a glacier and anchor for a while, like that you have enough time to watch what mother nature gave us.
Juneau's most popular attraction is the mighty, magnificent Mendenhall Glacier, located just 13 miles from downtown Juneau.Mendenhall is massive: it's face is 100 feet tall and 1.5 miles wide, it's length is over 6 miles, and it's handiwork, the Mendenhall Valley, is immense.
Read, watch or go there, is a life time adventure..
