I'm afriad my previous lenses may have sounded like I don't like the shore excursions available on a cruise. That isn't the case. These other lenses were talking about how I enjoy the luxury cruise vacations and how they can be inexpensive. These days of monetary lack may result in people feeling as if they can't vacation on a cruise ship. Well, you can read about them here:

Cruise Shore Excursions: Why purchase them while on a cruise?

Craigh Daroch Castle on Vacouver IslandWhen we have vacationed on shore, we were generally in an area long enough to eventually figure out what we wanted to do. After that we had a great time doing those things. But it took at least a day to come up with something. The reason for that is that we were visiting places we had never been before.

Cruise shore excursions are guided excursions

Our first cruise found us at a loss. When we realized we would be in each port for only a few hours, we knew we wouldn't be able to discover things we would want to do. So, we mainly relied on the cruise shore excursions. With those, we could plan the next port stay a day or two ahead of time.
When we reached the port, the tour guides would meet us at the appointed time, load us up in our transportation and take us on our excursion.

Cruise shore excursions give access

One excursion was a boat trip out into the Caribbean to snorkel. They had the boat ready with plenty of equipment and a place to take us to see the beautiful fish in that area.
Another shore excursion took us by bus to a lagoon on the other side of the island where we were docked. The tour guide told us about the history and stories about some of the landmarks as we went on our way and back. It was very entertaining and relaxing.

We mainly made our own excursions on our Hawaii cruise. We walked around close to the ship for most of the ports. We went on one shore excursion which took us to another island to snorkel (we like to snorkel). Another time, when we stayed two days in one port, we rented a car and drove it to a park on the far side of the island. It was very beautiful, and exciting.
