Nature Cruise Vacations

What is a nature cruise vacation? Is it for you?

What type of person are you? Do you like adventure and exploration? Well maybe a nature or expedition cruise vacation is what you're looking for. People that attend nature cruises are very independent and environmentally conscience people. They do not want to be entertained by passive things and like to have a hands-on approach in life.

Nature cruise vacations are dedicated to the people who want more out of their vacation then long buffet lines and mediocre snorkeling. Each cruise line that has nature expedition cruise is equipped with historians, lecturers and naturalists. These experts in their field provide valuable information while you are chartering the waters. Each adventurer will get a book that provides background information about the destination and the marine life that they might approach while at sea.

The possibilities are unlimited with the amount of things you can do on adventure cruises. You could walk on a glacier or iced packed mountains, or see penguins off the coast of Antarctica. Basically, where a ship can go, you can go too. If you become bored easily and want dancers and bedazzle, then this type of cruise is not for you. Many nature boats do not have the traditional entertainment packages that regular cruise lines have.

The ship is designed for comfort, despite the fact that you might be barreling through ice encrusted waters and jagged corral reef. Typically, nature cruises offer fine cuisine for even the most finicky of eaters. Your senses will be heightened due to the physical and metal activities that are continuously going on when out at sea. Most cruise ships provide warm parkas and water proof boots, however you will have to equip yourself with other waterproof clothing to stay comfortable when going on trips to Antarctica and the Arctic.

Did you know that as many as 35,000 people visit Antarctica each year? It is possible to reach this uninhabitable continent with a cruise ship. However, the remote side of the continent can only be visited by icebreaker ships. Due to the self sustaining boats and dangerous travel, ships are limited to about 100-200 passengers per boat.

Be careful when choosing a cruise ship for your adventures. Some cruise ships offer nature expeditions but are not equipped with the right hull or safety standards. Cruise ships that have over 500 passengers are prohibited from sailing to the Arctic as a breach in the hull would be devastating. Remember to choose a good travel agent that can get you a cheap all inclusive cruises deal.

You will be able to see a lot of wildlife and come into contact with dolphins, sharks, orcas, seals, birds, penguins and other vegetation.

If Antarctica is not your cup of tea, you can always go to Greenland. Did you know that 82% of Greenland is covered with ice? Also Greenland has more dogs than people! If you decide that you want to go to a warmer climate, you could always try the Galapagos Islands. The best way to visit these islands is by using an Ecuadorian cruise line as these islands are heavily protected by the government.

So now that you've heard a little about nature or expedition cruise vacations, do you want to go on one?
