Tracking LensRank, Traffic and Earnings

I am jumping on bdkz's bandwagon, so to speak, since she issued an invitation for others to borrow her template to track SquidStats. Starting today, I will keep a monthly tab of LensRank, and a log of traffic and earnings. The only thing I am doing differently is tracking which pay tier my lenses fall in (based on the last tier level report I saw, which was for April 2008) rather than going by hundreds or thousands.

Here is a copy of the cut-offs as of October 2008, based on Loyalis' Squidconomy lens

Tier 1: approximately the top 2,000 lenses with the highest average lensrank.
Tier 2: approximately the next 8,000 highest lenses by avg. lensrank.
Tier 3: Approximately the next 85,000 (according to giltotherescue)

Payout Levels:

Tier 1 : $10.75
Tier 2 : $1.81
Tier 3 : $0.08

Promise not to laugh at my stats...I am still relatively Squid~illiterate. One of the reasons I am creating this page is to encourage other relative newbies and "lay people" not to be intimidated by the mysterious inner workings of Squidoo.
Although I have been a lensmaster for almost 2 years, I didn't really begin learning about the nature of the beast until late February 2008, and still barely understand the basics.

I failed the only computer class I ever took, and that was 24 years ago! I'm just everyday folk doing her best to make waves in the world of Giant Squids!

September Stats

November pay day

(pay day info coming in about a week- hopefully)

Most of my lenses (131 at the time of pay calculations) were ranked better than 85,000 which according to giltotherescue (via email) was the cut-off for tier three... so November pay day should be a good one.

August Stats

October PayDay

I have a total of 128 "live" lenses, now...holding steady.

September payday came in at just under $47.
Still confused why it decreased slightly when LR increased. Still, it was not far off from what I predicted.

I keep managing to forget to take a dashboard screen capture at the end of the month.

Eagerly looking forward to November's pay day, now, as my LR has increased significantly across the board since August. I am calculating a payout of $70 based on my stats as of late September/early October.

May-June-July 2008 Stats

July, August and September Paydays

I was working out of state and did not have much internet access over the summer. Therefore I do not have print outs or even saved records of my stats during this period.

My earnings increased dramatically, however, over the three month period.

My actual September payday, once my lensmaster referral bonus was finally added, came to roughly $48. I did expect it to be higher, but it was affected by Squidoo's new LR calculation methods of averaging ranks over the course of the month, so some of my new and newly improved lenses, although they ended ranked better than 2000, did not receive top rank pay.

Estimated LR end of May 2008

a total of 89 lenses:
(due to limited internet access throughout this time-frame, all rankings are estimated)

2 were ranked in the top tier as of month's end with an additional 3 in the second tier
8 more fell in the third tier
and 39 more in the final payout tier

using last month's tier payouts, this means my estimated rank earnings for the July pay day should be roughly $23
plus whatever the affiliate earnings (which I do not understand pay dates for) accumulate to, at this time roughly $9 total

Estimated LR end of April 2008

incl. est earnings due in June

Here we are at the last day of the month! Whew! I am glad it is over and feel like I am entering a "new era" as a lensmaster, now that I know some of the "secrets" of LR...

Here is how the stats stack up for April 30:

77 total live lenses
0 in Tier 1
12 in Tier 2
49 in Tier 3
15 in the bottom tier (pennies add up is my rationale!!!)

Assuming the pay-outs per tier have not changed radically, that means my earnings come pay day should be roughly $22.15
actual payment $19.89

That is an increase of $12.65, or 2.33 times more than last month.

I hope I can keep up this growth rate!

Estimated LR for end of March 2008

incl. estimated earnings due in May

I will be curious to see how this stacks up come next payday as it will be the first time I have followed-up! As far as I can tell, these are the number of my lenses per each pay-out tier LR as of the end of March 2008 (note: I did not count lenses published after March 25th or any ranked below 100K)

# of Lenses in Tier 1: 0
# of Lenses in Tier 2: 5 for $7.65
# of Lenses in Tier 3: 21 for $1.68
# of Lenses in Tier 4(est. based on 100K cut-off): 23 for $.23

Total Earnings Should Equal $9.56 give or take a few pennies for lenses published close to end of month and allowing for possible variation in calculation date.

UPDATE: Actual earnings for this pay period were $15.40, higher than expected. I have accepted that the earnings I thought I had accrued during this period were not calculated correctly and therefore do not expect to ever see them.

September 2008 Stats

I now have 129 "live" lenses. I have learned some very helpful "tricks" this past month since returning to civilization, and they have boosted my LR dramatically across the board.

I am very curious to see how this affects my earnings, and whether it will be reflected in the October payout or if I'll have to wait til November.

month-end stats coming soon!

This lens helps me understand how the tiers function. I may even begin to track stats more closely - right now I monitor daily and take a weekly snapshot to report my top 10 on my Squidoo stats and tips blog. 5*

Fascinating, it looks to me though that to make any real money; one has to flog something. The question is- What?

I'm so new, I have not yet wrapped my head around how the stats equate to the monies. So far I've earned a 74 cent royalty from cafe press ... but hey, I was just as excited to see that as if the Publisher's Clearinghouse folks knocked on my door. Well ... maybe not QUITE as excited, LOL. This is a cool idea to share info like this with newbies like me. Thanks!
