Crystal Ornaments For The Holidays!
Crystal and glass ornaments have been around since the mid-1800s when glass makers discovered that silvering the inside of the glass shapes changed the refractive properties and added colors. Since trees had few candles to light them, for obvious reasons, adding the reflected glint via crystals exponentially increased the ambient light from the room.
The holidays bring out many nostalgic feelings and, especially in the US, elderly grandparents remember tough times in the Great Depression when something shiny was a bit exciting. Toy trains, bright ornaments and a few simple gifts were a treat for every home. Thus crystal ornaments carry a bit of wonder and history if they are passed down to the next generation.
Hand painted Christmas ornaments became the rage and were considered valuable even though their true cost was not high. In the Great Depression, a simple addition of glass artwork may be all the family could afford to give each other. It is not surprising that the surviving old fashioned decorations appeal to many family's sense of history and toughness for making it through that period.
Properties
Crystal ornaments are very fragile, but its delicate nature may add to its appeal for Christmas trees. One of the lovely things about glass on trees is the way it reflects the lights. Clear and colored glass Christmas ornaments will allow the lights to shine and sparkle on the tree. Many glass decorations have been cut, engraved and treated to enhance the refractive properties. This is apparent when you consider Swarovski or Waterford crystal ornaments.
Variety
There are dozens of styles to choose from including crystal glass, plain glass, and glass sculpture. Nearly any shape can be made, but the most common are the ball, painted shapes, icicles, stars, angels and glass beads used to create decorative strings. With destinations, anniversary, birth and even movie themed ornaments, one can find a crystal that shows the uniqueness of the home and person.
Holiday Collections
With brand names such as Lenox, Waterford and Wedgewood, a whole industry of collectible ornaments has risen in the past 20 years. This includes crystal not only for trees, but around the table, nativity scenes, gifts and engraved items to mark a point in time. Sets such as "Baby's First Christmas" and annual tree topping stars are most popular.

I came across this site which had some remarkable crystal ornaments. Many appear to be hand decorated and have several unusual shapes like tunics, shoes, eggs, hearts and bombs (aka round-type-we-all-know). I think it is the exquisite color and detailed work with sequins and beads that caught my eye, so take a look at BOMBKARNIA .Of course, you can find even more crystal ornaments at: Crystal-Ornaments.net

Hanukkah Ornaments
dreidel, menorah and more!
Though most Christians don't see an overt display, Judaism celebrates Hanukkah at nearly the same time as Christmas. They too use a variety of ornaments and ornamental objects that help support their beliefs. The Menorah and the dreidel are a few of the more common items. The dreidel is a small top that was originally used for gambling. Whether to siginify a "great miracle happened here" or to play Teetotum, it is a traditional Jewish Hanukkah symbol. Click here for more information: dreidel
The Menorah is a candelabrum with room for nine sticks. Tradition has it that after a revolt and return to a monastery, the temple only had enough olive oil to keep candles lit for one day. A miracle occurred and it lasted eight days until a new supply arrived. Thus one candle is lit each day for eight days to signify the miracle. Gifts are also exchanged on each day among family members and loved ones.
Both of these traditional symbols are used widely in holiday ornaments. Click here for a wide variety of Jewish holiday supplies: Hanukkah Store

Crystal NY Yankees Snowman
get this for your Yankees fan!

I have to admit that I am not a NY Yankees fan (grew up near Cincinnati), but I came across a truly fine Christmas decoration from the Thomas Kinkade momentos that made me grin. The snowman is an enduring symbol of the holidays and winter itself, so attaching it to the Yankees as a feel good decoration wasn't a big stretch! Thus the "Go Yankees" crystal snowman was created.
The table decoration sit on a wooden base with a small train wrapped around it as you might find under a Christmas tree of yore. Though the base does not spin like others in the series, it provides a bit of nostalgia for those of us old enough to appreciate when a moving train was a fanciful thing!
The crystal snowman itself is laser carved with many New York icons - The new Yankees stadium, the Statue of Liberty, the NY skyline, the team bus, street salesman and snow! Since it is a crystal ornament, the primary etching is in the snowman belly which allows ample room for specific milestones.
The snowman also holds a custom baseball with the Yankees logo in one hand and a NY Yankees pennant in the other. The pride of any Yankee fan would shine through with this happy snowman. If it did not scream cool, wintery Christmas, this decoration could be used year round if you were a true Yankees fan! Since this does not have Christmas colors, the snowman could be used as a decoration as soon as the winter months come around or snow falls.EntMany of the Kinkade collectibles have increased in value over time and I'll bet the Yankees Snowman does the same.S Snowman does the same. Snowman does the same. Most Yankee fans pick up items that can be used at different times of the year and especially when their team is not in season. These are a Bradford Exchange exclusive item and are produced in a limited run, so don't miss your chance to lighten up your Yankee's fan eyes on or before the holidays.
Since the Yankees added their 27th World Series trophy to the case, your Yankee fan will want to add something to his or her collection as well. The "Go Yankees" snowman is a perfect addition for the Holidays and throughout the winter. You can get your NY Yankees Snowman CLICKING HERE .
Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Personalize Your Christmas!
Ornaments have been used for generations as a way to mark special times, additions to families, eventful years and milestones achieved. Hundreds of years ago, small, handmade items were given to mark an event and that has transitioned into our commercialized Christmas of today.Luckily, we can now mark those special events without making them ourselves AND we don't have to break the bank for a custom ornament either. Personal Creations has been making all sorts of items to commemorate various achievement, holidays and special days for over 13 years. While this is the time to acquire a custom ornament for a newborn, new city or new attitude, they can create personalized jewelry, wall items, graduation gifts and Santa's stockings!
I like their simple, but elegant, glass ball using birthstone to outline a name and/or date of birth. This should turn into a heirloom for your family as well as be handed down to your child as he/she matures. Just think how this antique ornament will be cared for each Christmas as it is brought out and added to the tree!
So if you need a personalized ornament, stocking, gift for a new or old loved one plus Hanukkah or Kwanzaa, Personal Creations can handle your need. Check them out - Personal Creations.

- a few cloth/stuffed and stitched ones of times or places past
I also have any number of company ornaments that I still add to the tree usually since they add sparkle and nostalgia for me. Though I never became the CEO of IBM as I once planned, the shared times, places, disasters and triumphs all made for a decent career. The ornaments that hang remind me of those good times!

Meaning of Christmas Ornament Shapes
I stumbled upon this brief explanation of what some of the traditional Christmas ornament shapes symbolize. Though I am by no means religious, these do touch a chord for most of us as we think of family and friends. Enjoy! And Santa whispered, "Teach the children the true meaning of Christmas"...
* The Star: A heavenly sign of prophecy fulfilled long, long ago- The shining hope of mankind.
* The Color Red: The first color of Christmas, symbolizing that Savior's sacrifice for all.
* The Fir Tree: Evergreen- the second color of Christmas shows everlasting light and life. The needles point up to heaven.
* The Bell: Rings out to guide lost sheep back to the fold, signifying that all are precious in His eyes.
* The Candle: A mirror of starlight, reflecting our thanks for the star of Bethlehem.
* The Gift Bow: Tied as we should all be tied together in bonds of goodwill forever.
* The Candy Cane: Represents the shape of the shepherd's crook, used to bring lost lambs back to the fold.
* The Wreath: A symbol of the never ending eternal value of love having no end.
