Who is Crystal Renn

A Goddess

This plus size goddess from Clinton, Mississippi has appeared in French, Italian, American, and Mexican Vogue. No easy task for any curvy beauty. She has also been a regular feature model for Lane Bryant, Torrid, Dolce & Gabbana and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Crystal Renn has had to battle her own demons, since she was first scouted into the world of glamor at the age of fourteen, to become comfortable with her body and who and what she wanted to accomplish in life. It has lead her on an unexpected path to being a role model for women of all sizes.

This lens is dedicated to her and her fans.

The Weight Debate

There has been considerable debate over the last few months about whether Crystal has lost weight. This video from a Canadian photo shoot (The Block) definitely confirms that she has trimmed down her usual curves. Does she still look good? Definitely? Is she still a plus size model? No. Is still a full-figured model? Probably. Will we ever lose the size tags when it comes to modeling? Doubtful. But thin or curvy, I still love to look at her. I hope you do too!

Crystal the Advocate

02/26/2010

Crystal Renn is one of the highest paid (and requested) plus size models in the world. She's also becoming quite the advocate for size acceptance.

Recently she appeared along side other prominent voices on both sides of the debate "is it ok to be fat" on ABC's Nightline. I watched the full 45 minutes and I have to say it was interesting. Both sides make valid points. Now if only they could get together and work something out.

You can find a link for the Nightline debate at the Who is Crystal Renn lens which I just updated.

The Crystal Weight Debate

07/15/2010

I think Crystal Renn is a beautiful woman no matter what her size. Do I want her to remain plus size forever? Sure. Because that is what I can relate too. But I totally understand how her body would fluctuates given her hectic and active lifestyle; especially, the last two years.

I find it insane that we would attack her (and many other celebrities) for losing weight. They are just like us and we have to stop putting them up on pedestals like statues that never change their form. If we want people to respect us and our bodies we need to set a better example and accept others for theirs.

When it comes to modeling, I think people need to realize that Crystal's a full-figure model and not a plus size model in the traditional sense. There is a lot of confusion (and some times horror) when it comes to the clothing industries description of plus size (14 to 26) conflicting with the modeling industry's description (8 to 14). Many can not separate the two and many others seem to be offended. It confuses and frustrates people all around. All these things are not Crystal's fault.

Her true fans won't care what division she's in. I think there are just so many people attached to her that are afraid of losing such an obviously beautiful and vocal spokesmodel for their cause: the one where all women are beautiful regardless of their size. But the thing is, Crystal can be an advocate for plus women no matter what size she is.

Show your support by saying something positive and be sure to check out the latest interview link I added between Crystal and Glamour magazine.

Crystal Renn Engages in Food P*&%

09/29/2010

Looks like the former plus size model Crystal Renn (Who is Crystal Renn) and fashion photographer Terry Richardson are causing waves in the fat community (and beyond) with a new photo shoot for French Vogue that has her gorging on food in a sexually explicit manner.

Crystal is bedazzled in beautiful jewels and snuggled in gorgeous sweaters while she sits eating (loosely applied) spaghetti, meat, sausage and squid. A few voices have screamed it's a fashion shoot, others that it is art. Personally, I don't care for any of the photos or the gluttony and sexual connotations they showcases.

Does she look beautiful in them? Of course she does, she's a beautiful woman. She is gorgeous in fact (whether she is slim or plus size she IS gorgeous). They went for shock & not for the clothing/jewelry. The sweaters/jewelry become the background in this photo shoot. This isn't art to me. Crystal has been artistically photographed hundreds of time. I've seen it. This is just... well, the only thing that come to mind is "ew".

This is one of those instances where the model (and role model for women over a wide range of ages) should have used her brains and said "no".

You can see images for this photo shoot on plus size model Mia Amber's blog.
