Crystal Healing

Crystals have been in use by many civilizations, since time immemorial. Our ancestors probably stumbled on crystals exposed by the weathering of rocks and naturally, were attracted by their beauty. Most probably the shiny glint of quartz in the sunlight caught their eye.

Since then, crystals have been revered and used by humans all over the world. Crystals are like the offspring of Mother Earth. One of their peculiar habits is the ability to produce electricity, as well as visible light, in response to compression or stress, as when they are struck. This characteristic is called piezoelectricity.

Another characteristic of crystals is pyroelctricity, which is the electrification of the crystal, as when they are heated up. When the crystal is heated, the energy within expands, and when it is cooled, the energy contracts. The energy is in the form of electrical charges, which accumulate on the surface of the crystal.

By this theory, crystals are able to serve as conduits for mental energy, or psychic energy. Crystals can become vehicles for thought transference, and the way it interacts with the vital energy of the human body, is what makes them exhibit healing properties.

Human beings are not just flesh and blood, but spirit as well. The ancients believed that this energy runs in an organized circuit system, and congregate on certain zones, known as chakras (from an Indian Sanskrit word). There are similar parallels in Chinese acupuncture.

Both systems believe that there are major and minor chakras all over the energy counterpart of the body. The chakra system believes in seven major chakras which are distributed from the base of the spine, all the way up to the top of the head.

It is believed crystals interact a lot on a metaphysical level, and this is where it gets interesting, because different crystals have different properties, and characteristics. So, being more than just stones or jewelry, you will find they are in fact, highly fascinating, and will doubtless continue to play a large role in human society.
