Cumbrian Food & Recipes For Lovers Of Good Food
Ranked #2,197 in Food & Cooking, #41,630 overall
Cumbria is the home of the English Lake District and home of some great English Food Recipes. If you are looking for great English Food you'll find it here.
Cumberland a county in the North West of England now known as Cumbria is home to a unique heritage of British Food. The county is also the location of the fabulous Lake District in whose pubs and hostelries Cumbrian food is still served.
If you are looking for something new why not give Cumberland Sausage a try, or perhaps you might like Cumberland Pie. Best of all in my view is Cumberland Tatie Pot (not to be confused with its southern neighbor Lancashire Hot Pot) If its fish you fancy then maybe another 'pot' dish will appeal. Potted Char. This fish is a relative of the salmon and is a relic of the Ice Age which created the lakes.

Cumberland Ham a great English Food
If you want Ham recipes use the best ingrediants
Cumberland Ham is a speciality of award winning Cumbrian butcher Richard Woodall. The traditional method of preparing this ham is to dry cure it with salt and then rub in brown sugar. The Ham is then hung for up to 2 months to mature. Whilst the ham is preserved by this method it does need to be cooked before eating.
Apples of Cumberland an amazing variety of English Apples
A huge range of delicious and lesser known varieties of apples are grown in Cumberland. The website of the South Lakeland Orchard Group is a great way to find out more.
The names of the varieties are fascinating, and include, Carlisle Codlin, Forty Shilling, Longstart, Bradley's Beauty and Greeups Pippin. Certainly none of your supermarket standards there! Many of the varieties go back hundreds of years to Tudor times and before and many have been specially cultivated for the Cumbrian micro climate which can be damp and cold.
Cumbria even boasts its very own Apple Day which is held annually on or around the 21st of October.

- Fascinating lens! I love discovering recipes that I've never tried from other parts of the world. I saw many I'd like to try here. The Rum Butter-Mmmm--sounds heavenly, as does the Cumberland Ham. I was intrigued by the Tatie Pot recipe but I might have to make a substitute--I'm a bit squeamish about the Black Pudding.

- When I was in northern England and Scotland I expected the food to be very bland at best. What a great surprise! It was wonderful!
Of course, I have to say I couldn't get into putting mayonnaise on French Fries and I wouldn't, no matter how adventuresome I wanted to be and no matter how much I love oatmeal, I couldn't eat hagis
