What you will need

Materials

* Black wool roving
* Red brown roving (or colors you prefer)
ground plunger coffee beans about 1/2 tsp
felting needle
foam rubber pad or needle felting brush
* Brown feather yarn or similar
1 Button
brooch pin (if you are turning your Heart into a brooch)
sewing needle and cotton
Notes
*** Feel free to play with different colors and yarns, that is half the fun of these hearts.

*

Step one

Creating the Heart Base

Take approx 9-10 inches of black roving (2-3 inches wide).

Turn one end up and back again to the center.
repeat this on the other side.
Use your felting needle to *Tac the the wool in place.
* using the needle in a jabbing motion to interlock the fibers.

Step 2

Adding the Coffee Center

Add the Ground coffee to the base.

Step2.2

Creating the padding for your Heart.

Taking your black roving, make the top padding for the right side .
using approx 4 inches of roving make a u shape and manipulate it until it fits the left side of the Heart use your needle to tac it in place.
Repeat this process on the right side side.

Step 3

Top Padding of Heart

Carefully tac the Heart so that the bottom base and the top padding form the Heart base.
Lift the Heart gently from the base and turn other to work the other side.

Step 4

Firming up your Heart

Your needle can be used at this stage to shape your Heart. I like to use the needle on the sides, to help create a better form. Remember to turn over your heart so as not to accidentally felting it into the base.
Note:
*If your coffee spills out add a little more wool roving to patch up the leak.

Once your heart is looking good you well be ready to add the decorative fiber.

Step 5

Adding the decorative fibre

Wind your yarn around the heart, being careful not to cover the same area twice, so that the Heart looks evenly covered.

step 6

Locking in the decorative yarn

Using a small tuff or warm red brown roving, that has been carefully teased out to create a delicate veil (like a hairnet) spread this over the Heart and tac in place. You well find that the fiber net well lock the yarn in pace.

step 7

Covering the Heart

Cover the entire Heart with this red brown roving until your Heart looks like the one in this picture

Step 8

Finishing Touches

sew a brooch onto the back of your Heart, and add a button for decoration.
Enjoy your Heart, and make some for your friends, They well love the smell of coffee beans that drifts up from time to time that well help to remind them they should ring you for a coffee date.

Variations

Have fun with different fillings.

I have used dried lavender in my Hearts and have made the Hearts up in different sizes and styles, the picture is of a Coffee Heart that I made to hang in my craft room.

Needle felted beads
The wonderful thing about felted necklaces is that they are light as a feather. You can choose soft fibers to decorate and create that lovely to touch feel, and as I had recently discover
