Martha Stewart's Cupcakes: 175 Inspired Ideas for Everyone's Favorite Treat
It's here! It's here! Honestly, I could hardly wait for June 2nd, 2009, when Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book was to be released. I had requested it at the library but, as I guessed, I could not wait and I drove to Costco to buy a copy. Unfortunately, today was a busy day and my family did not get to have a cupcake or two after supper but hopefully that will happen in the next day or two.
I have used many of Martha's recipes before including one that she promoted on her show several years ago called Billy's Vanilla Vanilla Cupcake. Arguably, this was not her recipe but rather one from a bakery called Billy's Bakery in New York City. However, I am willing to bet that the recipes in Martha Stewart's new book are going to be...well, at the very least, delicious...and I'm going to report back here with my 'book review' once we've taste-tested some of the cupcakes to make sure that the recipes are indeed, very good. This will be a painful task, but it is something that I am willing to do in order to share the facts here with you! Bookmark this page and come back to see how the cupcakes actually turn out! (But be warned, they are not likely to be pretty but hopefully they will be yummy! In my house, presentation takes the back seat or even the trunk, to taste.)
You will find a brief review of Martha's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes on this page and a link to the recipe. You will also find lots of news about the book and lots of links to Martha's as well as other great cupcake recipes, some fantastic photos and the opportunity for you to tell us what you think of Martha Stewart's newest book. Enjoy!
Martha Stewart's Cupcakes
Release Date: June 2, 2009
The Story of Martha Stewart's Cupcakes, The Book
"Hot, Hot, Hot," that is how I would describe cupcakes right now. They are very trendy and people are craving them. (Is that a surprise to you?) According to marthastewart.com, 'cupcake' is one of the most searched for terms on their site! It is not surprising then that Martha and her staff decided to create Martha Stewart's Cupcakes a new cookbook that features 175 recipes for cupcakes and their frostings, fillings and toppings. The book includes classic cupcake recipes like devil's food and unusual cupcake recipes like peanut butter and jelly ones. Naturally, each cupcake recipe features a full-color photograph and lots of ideas for decorating and presenting it as only Martha knows how to do.
Martha Stewart's Cupcakes, The Book
What do I think of it?
Well, I purchased the book yesterday as I previously mentioned. I knew it would not be at the cover price of $24.99 (U.S.) or $29.99 (Canada) because people simply don't pay the cover price on new books these days. Amazon.com has it for $14.99 and Amazon.ca has it for $18.89. If you're in Canada, click here to order it from Amazon; if you're in the United States, click here
. I do not think you will be able to do much better than that elsewhere and Amazon will deliver it quickly right to your front door.
The book is a paperback book with 352 pages brimming full of cupcake ideas. There is, of course, an introduction from Martha herself. Then there is a section called Cupcakes for Any Day which takes up the greater part of the book (the recipes) and includes sub-sections called Swirled and Sprinkled, Dipped and Glazed, Simple and Sweet, Filled and Layered, Piped and Topped, Birthdays, Holidays and, finally, celebrations. These sections take up 287 pages after which you will find pages discussing The Basics, Displaying and Giving, Templates and Clip Art, Sources, Photo Credits and the Index.
If you weren't already hungry for a cupcake when you picked up this book, you will be once you've read Martha's introduction in which she tells the story of asking her guests what cupcakes mean to them. (I've taken Martha's idea and added a list to this page where you can add what cupcakes mean to you. I'm curious.)
If Martha's adjectives in the introduction don't make you hungry, the great pictures throughout this book certainly will. I'll admit to really wanting a chocolate one ~~ the Devil's Food Cupcake. I also find the sound ot the Strawberry Cupcake and the Lemon Meringue Cupcakes tempting, albeit for wildly different reasons. The strawberry one is tempting because it is absolutely beautiful but the lemon meringue one is tempting because of my previous experience with Martha's Mile-High Lemon Meringue soup, oops, I mean pie! I will definitely have to try the lemon cupcakes because I know I will be successful with them!
Martha Stewart's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes Recipe, A Review
Well, I don't know what to say. I don't want to give away the story of my page, The Best-Ever Lemon Cupcakes ~~ An Adventure Story, but I guess that I have to in order to review one of the recipes from the book. Martha Stewart's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes are the BEST lemon cupcakes that I've ever eaten. They are delicious, scrumptious, yummy, delectable, mouthwatering and more! The lemon flavour is so fresh my taste buds could not believe it and the cupcake is exactly like a piece of lemon meringue pie! Anyway, for the whole story of my adventure, you'll have to follow this link.
