Martha Stewart's Cupcakes: 175 Inspired Ideas for Everyone's Favorite Treat

I waited anxiously for June 2nd, 2009, the date when Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book was released and I was not disappointed.

I had used many of Martha's recipes before including one for cupcakes that she demonstrated on her show several years ago called Billy's Vanilla Vanilla Cupcake. Arguably, this was not her recipe but rather one from a bakery called Billy's Bakery in New York City. However, it was delicious, as the recipes in her Cupcakes cookbook have proven to be.

My cupcakes are not always pretty like Martha's or yours, but they are usually yummy and, in my house, where live two hungry teenage boys with myself and one hungry man, presentation takes the back seat or even the trunk, to taste.

On this page, you will find a review of Martha Stewart's Cupcakes cookbook, a link to my review of Martha's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes. You will also find news about the book and links to Martha's and other great cupcake recipes, some fantastic photos and the opportunity for you to tell us what you think of Martha Stewart's Cupcakes cookbook. Enjoy!

The Story of Martha Stewart's Cupcakes, The Book

"Hot, Hot, Hot," that is how I would describe cupcakes right now. They are very trendy and people are craving them. (Is that a surprise to you?) According to marthastewart.com, 'cupcake' is one of the most searched for terms on their site! It is not surprising then that Martha and her staff decided to create Martha Stewart's Cupcakes a cookbook that features 175 recipes for cupcakes and their frostings, fillings and toppings. The book includes classic cupcake recipes like devil's food and unusual cupcake recipes like peanut butter and jelly ones. Naturally, each cupcake recipe features a full-color photograph and lots of ideas for decorating and presenting it as only Martha knows how to do.

Martha Stewart's Cupcakes, The Book

What do I think of it?

The cover price of this cookbook is $24.99 (U.S.) but Amazon.com has it for listed for for $15.81.and you can click right here to order it. I do not think you will be able to do much better than that elsewhere and Amazon will deliver it quickly right to your front door. Remember, they offer FREE shipping on orders worth $25 or more.

The book is a paperback book with 352 pages packed full of cupcake ideas. There is, of course, an introduction from Martha herself. Then there is a section called Cupcakes for Any Day which takes up the greater part of the book (the recipes) and includes sub-sections called Swirled and Sprinkled, Dipped and Glazed, Simple and Sweet, Filled and Layered, Piped and Topped, Birthdays, Holidays and, finally, celebrations. These sections take up 287 pages after which you will find pages discussing The Basics, Displaying and Giving, Templates and Clip Art, Sources, Photo Credits and the Index.

If you weren't already hungry for a cupcake when you picked up this book, you will be once you've read Martha's introduction in which she tells the story of asking her guests what cupcakes mean to them.

If Martha's adjectives in the introduction don't make you hungry, the great pictures throughout this book certainly will. I'll admit to really wanting a chocolate one ~~ the Devil's Food Cupcake. I also find the sound ot the Strawberry Cupcake and the Lemon Meringue Cupcakes tempting, albeit for wildly different reasons. The strawberry one is tempting because it is absolutely beautiful but the lemon meringue one is tempting because of my previous experience with Martha's Mile-High Lemon Meringue soup, oops, I mean pie! I will definitely have to try the lemon cupcakes because I know I will be successful with them!

Martha Stewart's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes Recipe, A Review

Well, I don't know what to say. I don't want to give away the story of my page, The Best-Ever Lemon Cupcakes ~~ An Adventure Story, but I guess that I have to in order to review one of the recipes from the book. Martha Stewart's Lemon Meringue Cupcakes are the BEST lemon cupcakes that I've ever eaten. They are delicious, scrumptious, yummy, delectable, mouthwatering and more! The lemon flavour is so fresh my taste buds could not believe it and the cupcake is exactly like a piece of lemon meringue pie! Anyway, for the rest of the story of my adventure and for the recipe, you'll have to follow this link...where you will also see me prove that presentation is NOT my strong suit!

I expect it to be fabulous!

Sorry, it is just not my cup of tea...

Holly Warnke says:

I have tried several of these recipes with very disappointing results. The Red Velvet Cupcakes were EXTREMELY oily and not very chocolaty. Thinking I may have done something wrong, I tried it again with very disappointing results. Although I have had luck with other Martha Stewart recipes, I would not recommend this particular book as there are just too many cupcakes that disappoint.

Kim says:

I am a big-time cupcake baker... legendary in my daughter's social circle. And I adore Martha Stewart... everything about her... Some of my favorite recipes come from her other books, so I thought her new cupcake book was "my cup of tea." HOWEVER, I tried the Triple-Citrus Cupcakes with not-so-exciting results. And I just cleaned up the kitchen from Devil's Food Cupcakes with Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting. My daughter and her friends would not finish them :( And they are hungry college students who would typically eat just about anything! I am afraid to try another recipe from this book.
