Cupcakes vs Muffins

As a general rule of thumb, anything that is a member of the cake family is ok by me.

Cupcakes are far superior to muffins.

They are portion controlled sizes of cake. A smaller canvas for the artists of the cake world. Muffins might be considered a healthier food, but cupcakes are an art of the food world.

Heck, cupcakes even have their own reality show! There is a "Cupcake Sisters" but there is no "Muffin Sisters".

We might eat muffins because we think they are healthier, but we eat cupcakes out of love.

Muffins are a part of our culture. From a joke in Seinfeld to describing how our pants fit, they have become something we're all know and love.

Often considered a member of the bread family (or at least a distant relation), muffins position themselves as healthy snacks or breakfast options.

They come in a variety of flavors such as bran, oatmeal, blueberry, banana bread and many more. With few exceptions (such as chocolate chip), these flavors reflect foods we typically define as "healthy".

In the battle of cupcakes vs. muffins, cupcakes will always have my heart, and here's the extra reason why:

Cupcakes have super powers.

Two years ago, I ran a charity event called Cupcake Wednesday. I traveled around my city giving cupcakes to people who had donated to the local food bank. By the end of that Wednesday, this one event had led to hundreds of pounds of donated food and hundreds of dollars of donated money.

Last year, the focus of my year was getting married, so I didn't get a chance to repeat the success, but 2012 is a whole new year with a whole new set of vacation days, so we'll see if lightning can strike twice!
