Help to Cure Anxiety and Panic Attacks Now

In order to cure anxiety and panic attacks, it's very necessary to know what causes them for you personally.

When I had my first panic attack, I felt like I was going to die. I had absolutely no idea what was happening to me...my heart was racing and I was shaking all over. It felt like I couldn't breathe, so I was taken to the hospital.

The doctor later told me that I was "just having a panic attack" and told me some tips to cure anxiety and panic attacks. Those tips weren't enough though, so I came up with my own. Here's what I use to help myself get through panic attacks whenever I get one.

#1 Tip to Cure Anxiety and Panic Attacks

One Simple Thing I Use When Panic Strikes

This is one of the most effective methods that I've come across to cure anxiety and panic attacks. It is the first thing that I do when I feel an anxiety attack coming, and it works probably 90% of the time.

Step 1. The technique involves visualization. If you feel anxiety creeping up, close your eyes. Envision yourself in the place you feel most comfortable in- it could be your house, your bedroom, your parents' house..whatever.

Step 1. Think of something that you really like to do there. Do you watch TV? Read a book? Talk with your friends? Think of what it would be like if you were doing that right now. Think of what you would see, hear, and feel, concentrating on each of these senses one at a time. Imagine each sense as it comes to you in detail. Remember, there are no bad situations that you could think of. It's your favorite place in the whole world!

Step 3. Then, squeeze your left wrist with your right hand. This is called anchoring, and is used in many neurolinguistic programming (NLP) applications. What NLP does is link a mental feeling with a physical one. So every time you touch your wrist, you will feel at home and the anxiety will melt away. Try this out whenever you feel like it- it doesn't have to be triggered by anxiety, and the connection is actually strengthened the more it is performed.

What NOT to Do

This panic attack treatment method can be potentially harmful to you if you use it...so don't!

Many panic attack sufferers, as well as some doctors, recommend that you breath into a paper bag when you are having a panic attack. The reason why this was originally thought to cure anxiety and panic attacks is because it slows down the patients' breathing rhythm as well as the heart rate.

However, this treatment has now been criticized by others as ineffective and possibly hazardous. It can also even make the panic attack worse! One of the pitfalls of using a paper bag to cure anxiety and panic attacks is that it can drastically lower oxygen levels in the bloodstream, sometimes enough to be fatal. It can also increase carbon dioxide levels, which has now been found to be a major cause of panic attacks.
