Cure Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Before going for any medication or training you need to find out whether you dog has separation anxiety or not.

1. Common abnormal behaviors observed in a dog with separation anxiety are destructive behavior, barking, whining, licking, panic attacks, digging, diarrhea, vomiting etc.

2. These habits are more predominant when you are absent from home.

There can be several reasons behind separation anxiety in dogs. However, every reason boils down to the fact that dog is a social animal and it needs a leader under which it feels safe and relaxed. So you presence is very very important to your dog. Your absence causes anxiety and stress in him causing him to show abnormal behavior. Following are some of the several possible reasons:

1. If any of your members leaves home, it can have adverse effect on your dog.

2. If sped too much of time with your dog for quite a few days and then fail to do that later on because of being busy with other things, it can cause separation anxiety in your dog.

3. shifting to a new house can also lead to this sometimes.

4. Dogs brought from animal shelters show a higher tendency of developing separation anxiety.

Several methods have been proposed so far to cure separation in dogs. Based upon the reason and severity of the problem and the breed of your dog, you have to adopt a proper cure for your dog. A proper combination of medication and behavior training works best. The type and dose of medication is dependent upon the breed of your dog and severity of the problem. Some of the behavior training steps that can helpful in having control over this situation are given below.

1. You have to help your dog growing a habit of living peacefully with anxiety without you. So, leave it alone every day for some time. Gradually prolong its duration

2. Before leaving home take him for a walk and exercise so that it can sleep and relax after you leave.

3. On a holiday don't spend too much time with your dog so that it does not become too dependent on you.

4. When you are inside you can leave him outside for a while and get him used to that. Gradually prolong the duration of this.
