Cure Tinnitus and Have A Normal Conversation Again

When you have boost your voice volume so your senior parent can hear you converstations get shorter and shorter...

I was determined to find a cure for tinnitus so Dad and I wouldn't have to YELL OUR CONVERSATIONS ANYMORE!

Sometimes relationships between father and daughter can be tested. Dad and I were always a bit 'choppy' when it came to interpersonal communications. Over the years we both learned how to control our opinions and tempers. However, conversations with him were rapidly becoming more of a chore.

As Dad grew older his 'senior moments' came more frequently and he started talking about roaring ears or an engine noise in his head.

The first time he mentioned it I blew him off saying it was probably someone mowing outside or the neighbor working on his noisy truck engine. Dad kept bringing up this 'engine in his head' and I could tell it was starting to frustrate him. I decided to have him call me the next time the noise started in his head.

In Search of A Cure for Tinnitus to Stop Dad's Frustrating Noisy Engine In His Head

Don't mistake your senior's roaring ears and stories about having ringing in the ears as a mental problem.

It didn't take Dad long before he called to announce that the blasted engine was running again in his head. I zoomed over to join him in his living room where he kept asking me "...there now, don't you hear that?" in reference to the noises he was hearing. No of course I didn't, but I made a genuine effort to eliminate possible causes of this ringing in his ears.

There wasn't anything running in the household like a radio, the furnace and air conditioner were off and water wasn't pouring out of a faucet. I stepped out to the front yard in hopes of seeing (and hearing) a lawn mower, but only finches were peeping - hardly an loud noise. Back inside we walked into the kitchen where the refrigerator was humming. No - that wasn't the noise.

The pulsating noise was in his head and between his ears.

Dad really had pretty good health, but he suffers from arthritis, a bit of asthma, fends off glaucoma and won the prostrate battle. But this was something neither one of us had a clue how to battle. What was even more disheartening was that it was difficult for family and friends to hang out with him.

We all had to yell and repeat ourselves which usually wore us out after about 25 minutes. I also found that I kept my conversations with him short and without details. We all thought he was loosing his hearing, but I was getting a big clue that he was suffering from tinnitus.

Whatever you do, don't make an assumption that your senior parent is going senile when he mentions noises in his head and ringing in his ears.

You can end the misery without blowing a gasket or your wallet and find tinnitus relief at MyCureForTinnitus.com.

Is Surgery Dad's Option To Cure Tinnitus?

Count backwards from 100 before you jump on the cutting board in hopes that surgery will cure tinnitus.

Is your best hope to hop onto a hospital gurney and let the Ear-Nose-Throat surgeon do a little cutting? Read on...

I drove Dad to the VA hospital to take a hearing test. Guess what the outcome was? Only a minor loss of his ability to hear very high frequencies. Then why the heck does he hear this buzzing noise in his head. Why does he always max out the TV volume?

The doctor suggested that while Dad might be having a 'bout of tinnitus, more than likely he was suffering from inner ear damage. Dad did have 4 years with the Marines in WWII and he had experienced noisy battle conditions.

The doctor explained further that Dad's sense of hearing a ringing, pounding, buzzing, or roaring engine sound in his head when there was no apparent external cause might be tinnitus. He said that sounds are usually more apparent to Dad when he's in a quiet room or when he tries to fall asleep. Dad agreed that falling to sleep was a problem.

The doctor wasn't ruling out permanent ear damage and suggested a little exploratory surgery to see what conditions were in Dad's ears. This was a depressing proclamation for both Dad and I. He was 85. Neither one of us were really jazzed about any cutting on his head. No thanks. We'll search for another options.

So we read about how you can use acoustic therapy to help mask the noise. This device helps people relax and tune out the noise so they can sleep. This was a short-lived remedy for treating Dad's tinnitus. The device did help Dad tune out the ringing in his ears so he could fall to sleep. Unfortunately he found that he would get tangled in the headset wires when he rolled over in bed and he stopped using it. It really didn't do anything to cure tinnitus and only helped block out the pounding in his head.
