Global Warming and The Pain at the Pumps
Are you like me spending over a 100 dollars a week on gas? Does the weather where you live seem different then 10 years ago? It seems there is no relief in site for the steady rising gas prices and dramatic change in weather. My energy bills were increasing with no chance of climax. I feel the pain more than ever, because I deliver pizzas, and would be spending over 200 dollars on some weeks in gas alone, which depleted my pockets almost entirely. I was determined to find something to ease the pain and slow the warming. Thankfully for the internet I found some remedies.
Ways to Save Money While Slowing Affects of Global Warming
Best Methods to Save Energy and Money
Every generation since the industrial age has known the affects dangerous emissions that factory's, cars, and power plants have been releasing into the air for over a 100 years, but the mentality is that it wont happen to our generation. Well, its 2008 and the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, and could be gone within 30 years. Extreme weather has already begun with events like Hurricane Katrina, and Asia Tsunami, and only more extreme weather is expected. If we continue burning fuels the rate we are doing cities like San Francisco, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, and Miami could under water before 2050. Even now in 2008, we have already seen increased temperatures, fire outbreaks, droughts, and spread of diseases. Many people believe there is nothing they can do, but they would be wrong. There are many ways to reduce your energy consumption as well as saving money.Switch to energy-efficient lighting
by replacing the familiar incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. For each CFL bulb replacement, you'll lower your energy bill and keep nearly 700 pounds of carbon dioxide out of the air over the bulb's lifetime.
Energy Efficient Appliances
can drastically improve the energy-efficiency and operating costs. The more energy-efficient an appliance is, the less it costs to run. You can lower your utility bill and help protect the environment.
Reduce energy needed for heating
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, heating and cooling systems in the U.S. emit over a half billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. Much of the energy used for heating our homes is wasted, and yet the prevention is, in many cases, simple and inexpensive.
Reduce energy needed for cooling - Air conditioners on hot summer days, consume 43% of the U.S. peak power load. You can reduce much of the need for air conditioning, and enjoy a cost savings benefit, by using 'passive' techniques to help cool your home.
Improve Vehicle Fuel Efficiency
The second largest source of greenhouse gases is transportation. Motor vehicles are responsible for about a third of all carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. and Canada.
Your house is just the beginning. On average a 4 door car emits 575 POUNDS of emissions a year. If you buy a hybird you would cut the emissions by half while saving money. Though if your like me and cant afford hybird a much cheaper, and better way would be to use water for gas. This I highly recommended, because I turned my 2000 Toyota Solora to almost double the mpg of a Hybird Prius. Im telling you honestly as a person who just couldn't afford the ridiculous gas prices anymore. There are other alternative fuels starting to be used by people such as Biodiesel, but these are not available in most places. If can do just any of these you would be playing a huge role in slowing the inevitable warming of the earth.
Don't be ignorant to the "theory" of Global Warming anymore its real, and our government isn't doing much to stop it. Our future and those of our children are at stake. Please do your part together we can make a difference.
