hi Mandee the freshness, originality and style of your writing is outstanding , thanks for making us a part of everything you went through by just reading the lens....
  • fullofshoes Feb 7, 2012 @ 2:25 pm | delete
I thoroughly enjoyed reading about a nobody who is a somebody, just like me. Wonderful lens. Congrats on your purple star :)
  • Cercis Feb 7, 2012 @ 10:07 am | delete
Not so curious, but a plain fact...I am thankful for every day and try to pass that "thanks" on with a smile :+)
  • mamabush Feb 6, 2012 @ 11:58 pm | delete
Wow, congrats on your purple star for this lens! It was really wonderful learning more about you! :)

Hi, Mandee! It was good getting to know you through this lens. I, too, love The Chairman of the Board! All the best.
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Jan 28, 2012 @ 10:20 pm | delete
Your picture is an inviting window to your lense. Thanks for the view.
  • victoriuh Jan 28, 2012 @ 1:27 pm | delete
Wow, I didn't know I was a rich, liberal, environmentalist believing in psychics until I came here. I thought I was just going to learn about you :)
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 28, 2012 @ 1:32 pm | delete
See? You can't be pigeon holed either! Nice to meet you victoriuh! :D
  • IanMayfield Jan 27, 2012 @ 11:09 pm | delete
What a wonderful lens, Mandee. Going by some of the places you've lived, I'm guessing the reason you moved around so much growing up was because one (or both) of your parents was in the military.

Whether I'm right or not, I think you might be interested in this article that was published recently on one of the other sites I contribute at:

    nice cover lens
  • Mozaika Jan 27, 2012 @ 6:42 am | delete
Oh, even more curious is the fact that I had agreed to marry the man who is now my husband before we ever met in person! All our courtship was done over the phone and internet.
  • Mozaika Jan 27, 2012 @ 6:39 am | delete
Being born and raised in Ukraine, I refused to marry an American for the fear of leaving my home country; then several years later I married a Ukrainian and moved to America. Isn't it weird?
  • nancymaggielee Jan 26, 2012 @ 6:50 pm | delete
Nice to meet you Mandee! Great lens!

  • KathyT Jan 26, 2012 @ 3:33 pm | delete
Hi Mandee! You've inspired ME to do a similar lens! By the way... I never thought I'd be starting over either, but ... oh well, there ya have it! :) Fantastic story, and I'd love to meet you! I'm over in Port Orange FL for the winter though... probably quite a drive! :) Great job on this! (PS: I used to embarrass people like my step daughter when I'd burst into song and grab her hand to dance with her... but only in the living room! :) Blessings and hugs, Kath

Don't know of any. ;) I'm happy I found you on the front page!
  • ---Chazz Jan 24, 2012 @ 11:43 am | delete
You are an incredibly gifted writer. I am enjoying each of your lenses but found this one exceptionally outstanding. (I'm sure there are others but Squidoo is not my day job, so I can't spend as much time here as I'd like to but I will get to all of them). Blessed and featured on "Wing-ing it on Squidoo," a tribute to the best lenses I've found since donning my wings.
  • Afteretc Jan 24, 2012 @ 8:43 am | delete
What I love about squidoo is finding little gem pages likes yours. Loved reading all the places you lived. Love your humor too.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 24, 2012 @ 9:12 am | delete
What a wonderful compliment! Thanks so much for reading.
  • Wednesday_Elf Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:39 am | delete
I think your life is fascinating, Mandee -- congrats on having it featured on the Front Page!
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:47 am | delete
Obviously I don't go the the homepage often enough! I haven't been feeling well but logged on the morning and couldn't figure out why I had so many visits so far today... The front page makes a difference for sure! LOL Thanks Pat. You know I feel the same about your life!
  • Holysheepskin Jan 23, 2012 @ 1:50 am | delete
Hi Mandee, great lens about you!
Can totally relate to the moving around deal, funny how you really don't know how to answer that one.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:38 am | delete
Thanks for stopping by! Yup, it's not always an easy answer...
  • TravelingRae Jan 23, 2012 @ 1:38 am | delete
Now that I live full-time in an RV and home is where I'm parked I answer "Canada" to the "where are you from question." This is a very interesting lens. You're a hoot! :::blessed:::
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:37 am | delete
Thanks Rae! You have one up on me for sure, I haven't ever lived in an RV. Never say never though!
  • PollyFreakingAnna Jan 23, 2012 @ 12:16 am | delete
I LOVE THIS LENS! It's so weird that I feel like I know you and I'm compelled to read the second part.

I grew up in Texas (wasn't born there), so I get the "where are you from" thing all the time. Of course, they all assume so much when I say Texas...

Curious fact: I can say all 50 states in alphabetical order in less than 20 seconds.

You should sell wedding custom wedding vows online.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 23, 2012 @ 1:21 am | delete
That is a curious fact! LOL I love it. And, yes, it is a hard question to answer sometimes!
  • VickiSims Oct 19, 2011 @ 11:33 pm | delete
It was great getting to know you better, Mandee! So many places you've lived and so much adventure - no wonder you have so many stories to tell.
  • itsmuzza2011 May 17, 2011 @ 3:51 am | delete
great lens, i loved your peom, nice to meet you and have a nice time on Squidoo
  • Blessedmombygrace Mar 7, 2011 @ 9:55 pm | delete
Love your lens! I grew up in one home and have spent the past 47 Christmases with my parents going back to the same house I grew up in. I can't imagine moving all over growing up. This has been blessed by your Squidoo "About Me" angel!
  • AbsoluteJeanius Feb 3, 2011 @ 8:48 pm | delete
Thank you so much for blessing my Growing Up in the Country lens. I confess that I have gone back to it again and again, just because I loved the dragonfly pictures so much. *s* Curious fact...I paint watercolour paintings about 1/2 inch by 3/4 inch...which I mount onto small pendant frames...and I'm old enough that I'm coveting one of those huge magnifiers you hang around your neck!!!! :)
  • Wednesday_Elf Feb 1, 2011 @ 4:57 pm | delete
This lens has been featured on and lensrolled to my "SquidAngel Blessings by an Elf" lens. :-)
  • LoKackl Jan 22, 2011 @ 1:28 pm | delete
Delightful lens! But then I prefer to read (and write) about intangibles like "about me." Not a big money-making activity but akin to smelling the daisies. Rolling to emily dickinson less is more poet - for starters.
  • VickiSims Jan 18, 2011 @ 7:24 am | delete
What fun to have a life filled with so many different places and experiences. I really enjoyed getting to know more about you. The only curious fact I can think of about me is that I still live less than 20 miles from the place I was born!
  • kimmanleyort Jan 17, 2011 @ 10:50 pm | delete
Well, I have moved around a bit too but not nearly as much as you! I saw you mentioned Butler University somewhere and wondered where you were from since I live in Indianapolis (but I'm Canadian). I see you went to Ball State U. My son is there now. I think it's so cool you've lived in so many places.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 17, 2011 @ 10:54 pm | delete
Hi Kim! Yes, I think it is cool too... now. Not so much while growing up. My dad retired from the Navy while stationed in Indianapolis at a recruiting office so most of my family is there while my brother and i are in Florida. Go Cardinals! I hope your son enjoys Ball State as much as I did!
  • JohannaBaker Jan 17, 2011 @ 10:05 pm | delete
I have six children and twelve grandchildren and I still feel like I am younger than my children at times!
I write and I like to paint.
I love to check out houses and house plans, anything with designs gets me drooling....
Thanks for your lens and liking mine!
  • SoyCandleLover-Maker Jan 15, 2011 @ 11:08 am | delete
It sounds like you are living an extraordinary life. I can't wait to read part 2, so off I go. Congrats on you well deserved Purple Star. Tweeted your poll. Oh, and I love the Deadline Whooshing mouse pad. That's all me. :D.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 15, 2011 @ 11:19 am | delete
LOL, thank you for your kind words! Extraordinary - naahhh. Interesting? At times! LOL
  • wordstock Jan 3, 2011 @ 4:07 pm | delete
Our business was not recession proof either. It's been hard on everyone and I know what you mean about starting over at this age. However, survival is what what it is and we are all making new lives. It's interesting to say the least. Loved the poll on living in how many houses. Times have certainly changed based on the responses. Loved learning about you. Angel blessed.
  • DecoratingforEvents Jan 3, 2011 @ 4:13 pm | delete
Awwww, you are too sweet! Thank you for the blessing! Yes, we understand each other. It's hard but we are doing it (and so are you). Life throws you a curve ball every once in a while but you can still hit a home run. Good luck and blessings as you climb back up!
  • WindyWinters Dec 20, 2010 @ 4:46 pm | delete
Congratulations on your Purple Star. Thanks for sharing your story and I hope everything will brighter for the New Year. :)
  • aj2008 Oct 29, 2010 @ 2:04 am | delete
Congrats on your Purple Star Mandee and it is great to get to know you better through this lens.

Seems we have a lot in common. My brother and I ran a family business, which was a huge casualty of the recession - it is not good to be in property renovation when property values tumble.
  • DecoratingforEvents Oct 29, 2010 @ 7:34 am | delete
You said it AJ! Life is certainly different now but I am growing and learning again, which is what it is all about. Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by!

Excellent job keep doing what you have been and you will be a success here at Squidoo land.
  • lizziebeth Oct 21, 2010 @ 1:14 pm | delete
Hmmmm.... I like to collect playing cards, and have a small troll collection. I am from Wisconsin, but live in Kentucky now. I enjoyed learning about what makes you special. It is great to meet you!
  • WordCustard Oct 12, 2010 @ 11:56 am | delete
What a wonderful way to get to know you, Mandee! There are quite a few of us who have trouble with that question "So, where are you from?" but as you point out there are riches to be gained from moving about and seeing other places.
  • Oct 12, 2010 @ 12:43 am | delete
I love this! I've been encouraging people to build a lens about themselves for a long time. It helps bridge the miles that separate us. My first pet was also a dachshund. We lived several places, but not as many as you. When people ask where I'm from, I just say, "the midwest."
  • DecoratingforEvents Oct 12, 2010 @ 7:26 am | delete
Thank you. I think it does too. These are my favorite type of lens to read. I feel like I know people so much better!

Mandee, Mandee ...... you've been living my life! The similarities are astounding ... no wonder I was drawn to you and enjoy your lenses so much. It's like talking to my 'alter ego'. :).

Let's see -- 8 different grade schools, 2 different juniour highs, just one high school. Haven't yet added up all the times I moved as a child (more than 9 homes was my answer in the poll -- all in the same state (NY), but as an adult I've lived in 9 different states (a couple more than once) and, I think, if I counted right, 17 different homes. That's to date -- but, wait, I'm moving again in 2 weeks, so the saga continues! You're very right -- home is where your family is! I've had plans for awhile to write an About Me story -- guess it's time to do it now that yours has brought back all these memories! I LOVED your "curious facts about you", am crazy about your poem, and am proud to call you friend! ~~Blessed by a SquidAngel~~

While you were reading this I was laughing my "you know what" off reading your Potholder soup lens! I left a comment for you.

So, now I have lingering tears from laughing and new ones from a great friend! Thanks so much!!!

BTW, get to work on that "about me" lense! With your sense of humor and adventure, I can't wait to read it!!!!

Mandee, it was really nice to read about you, your family and your life so far! Wow dude, you sure have moved quite a bit. Well, I guess I'm not the only one who talks to myself, that's good to know ;) Thanks for sharing your life so openly ~ it's really nice to "meet" you! All the best as you continue life's journey...God bless! :)

What a great lens - - it's good to meet you! I also talk to myself (a lot). I say "dude" too, and I used to think that Shaun Cassidy was totally hot. I cracked up about your singing in the car story (and the family who was cracking up).
  • DecoratingforEvents Sep 15, 2010 @ 11:52 pm | delete
I am a goofball, or so my kids tell me! Glad to know I am not the only one that LOVED Shaun Cassidy or says dude! I will definitely tell my kids! LOL
