National Curmudgeon Day - Put on Your Grumpy Face
Ranked #962 in Holidays & Celebrations, #12,087 overall | Donates to Guitars for Vets
Ill-tempered Grouches Unite, National Curmudgeon Day is for You!
Does January have you in a grouchy, grumpy, sour mood complete with complaining, whining and acting generally miserable? Then you're all ready to "celebrate" National Curmudgeons Day, and you'd be surprised at how many ways you can honor a day devoted to being just plain miserable.
You are in good company, by the way, let me introduce you to the world of Curmudgeons and teach you proper curmudgeonliness. Yes, curmudgeonliness IS a word, even if my spell-checker doesn't agree, which is making me a bit cranky and curmudgeonly myself at the moment!

We hope you had a grumpy Curmudgeon Day, now smile until 2013!
Countdown to National Curmudgeon Day
What is the Definition of Curmudgeon?

A Curmudgeon is a grumpy ill-tempered person. It's generally a term used for older men who are stuck in their ways, expecting everyone to line up with their way of thinking...or else. Think of Mr. Potter (Lionel Barrymore) in "It's a Wonderful Life", or the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge of "A Christmas Carol".
But just today I read an email from a woman who described herself as a curmudgeon about a certain issue, so I suppose any old stubborn grump can be a curmudgeon.

10 Things to Do on National Curmudgeon Day
1. Learn to Be a Better Curmudgeon
Here are some tips for you
Do people call you a "grinch" when you put a damper on the holiday season?
Are you a grouch, a killjoy, a malcontent, or a party pooper?
In sports are you a poor sport and do you complain and put on your sourpuss when things don't go your way?
Do you act like your in a bad mood by putting on a long face?
Do you then sulk and mope about your home or the office moaning and groaning, whining, sniveling and snarling?
If not, you have some work to do before you are a proper Curmudgeon.
Is this the first time you've heard of National Curmudgeon Day?

4. Listen to and Read the Lyrics to Curmudgeon by Nirvana
They will have you feeling curmudgeonly in no time
And doesn't it take a bit of a curmudgeon to take the time to put together a video to PROVE which year the recording of the song was the loudest? Look below to see what I mean.
Here are the lyrics:
"I can't hide, no on the mantle
I'm not sad 'til I'm home
It's the season I'm all reason
I have seen I have grown
sheared at the seams
cheat on me cheat on me
cheat on me at the seams
and not seen at the seams
cheat on me at the seams
I'm a lender I'm a planter
I put something in the garden
in the handle on the mantle
I met Santa I met God
sheared at the seams
cheat on me cheat on me cheat on me
cheat on me at the seams
at the seams at the seams
cheat on me
I'm a lady can you save me?
it's the sulfur I have grown
'tis the season I'm all reason
I have fleas so run on home
sheared at the seams
cheat on me cheat on me cheat on me
cheat on me cheat on me cheat on me
at the seams at the seams
cheat on meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"
All I can say is "oy"...only a sad mind could create such a song.
“I've always been interested in people, but I've never liked them. ~W. Somerset Maugham”

- What fun a day when we are allowed to be grumpy, never heard of it before. My favourite grumpy tv character would have to be Victor Meldrew from One foot in the grave.

- National Curmudgeon Day is new to me -- and I couldn't possibly have been grumpy this year, as I was on vacation at the beach! :). But I'll certainly set aside some time NEXT January 29th to be a bit 'grumpy'. That way, I won't have to make excuses for a bad mood -- it's naturally 'allowed' on a day set aside for 'curmudgeons! LOL.
This is the perfect page to use for my Grouch quest. :)

- I think I celebrated that day about 2 weeks too early. I had a couple of really grumpy days and even remarked to a friend that I felt really cranky that day. Does that count? I think I will pass on the 29th as having already celebrated it and don't want to repeat it. :)

- Well, I learned something new here and am being grumpy about that. Why should I pick a favorite? I don't usually pick favorites and since I'm old and very set in my ways, I just say Bah-Humbug to that! I know exactly how I will celebrate Curmudgeon day - with a soupuss face on all day!
