Custer State Park and wildlife reserve is located in the Black Hills of southwestern South Dakota, USA. The park covers an area of over 71,000 acres, 287 km of hilly terrain and is home to many wild animals including a famous herd of 1500 free roaming bison. Peter Norbeck was the force behind the establishment of Custer State Park back in 1919. in 1927, U.S. President Calvin Coolidge made Custer State Park his "summer White House."

The Civilian Conservation Corp constructed two prominent buildings in the 1930's and are still in use today. They are the Peter Norbeck Visitor Center and the Wildlife Station Visitor Center.

Take a walk along the banks of French Creek, where Custer's expedition first discovered gold in 1874.
