And they're suddenly becoming the hottest, new decorating trend for parties - kids parties and adult parties, alike.

But short of standing them in a corner and using them for a hat rack, what's everybody really doing with these cardboard cutouts?
Because they're awfully expensive if all you're going to do is have them stand there and collect dust.
Well, those cardboard cutouts don't have to just stand there! You can use them as backdrops for photo opportunities at your party. Let guests pose with their favorite celebrity.
You can use them to 'Guard' the coat room or the buffet table.

Your local party supply store can order them for you, you can order them at your local stationery or office supply shop, and you can even find online sites that let you place custom orders.
Expect to pay anywhere from $25 for a small, 8-inch cutout to $150 or more for a life-size model. And that price doesn't include shipping and handling so you'll have that expense, too.
And some of these sites will be pretty picky about what photos you can use without signing waivers or checking copyrights and other legalities.

Almost Breathing: Custom Cardboard Cutouts

How easy is it to make your own custom cardboard cutouts?
So easy, anyone can do it!
Start with a good, high resolution image. It might be a photo you took with your own camera or it might be an image you got of the Internet. Either way, it should be at least 10 megapixels for clarity.
Gradually enlarge the image to the proper size. As you're enlarging be sure to eliminate smudges and blurry spots. Don't wait until you have the image blown up to full size before you start correcting the smudges. By then they'll be too distorted to fix.
Once you've got it the size you want you'll can start printing. Be careful not to touch the images until the ink dries.
Next, lay them out like puzzle pieces on top of your cardboard. Once you have everything arranged do a final check for imperfections before you start gluing.
Be careful while you're gluing the images to the cardboard. Touch the pictures as little as possible so you don't smear the ink.
Once the ink is completely dry use a craft knife to cut around the figure and be sure to leave room at the bottom for the stand.
