Nature Calendars Make Great Gifts for Any Occasion Near the End of the Year.

Nature scenes can bring the outdoors in on dreary winter days. . Mouse pad calendars, such as my floral two-year calendar, make it easy to check a date right from my desk top, while seeing something lovely whenever I'm at my desk. But wall calendars give offer many different photos to enrich one's life.

A calendar can be a very personal and thoughtful gift. Is there a special someone with whom you shared a trip? Gather the pictures that will help your special someone remember that trip all year round and think of you. You can even add text to speak to that special person several times a day. Help your family who sees that calendar often as they write in their appointments remember the highlights of a family vacation. There are a lot of possibilities for making a very personal and special gift of a nature calendar.

Most of Zazzle's custom nature calendars can be changed to suit yourself. The calendars will have high quality, full-color, full-bleed printing, and you will have your choice of thirteen unique styles for dates and holidays. If you've got pictures you like better than the ones already in the calendar, or if you just want to replace one or two, it's easy to do. If you love all the pictures, but would like to some different words, you can also do that easily. So when you buy from Zazzle, you can get exactly what you want and show the person you are gifting that you had them in mind when choosing this gift.

Amazon's calendars tend to be a bit cheaper than Zazzle's, since they were printing in volume instead of giving you the ability to tailor-make the product for the recipient -- or for yourself. You get what you pay for either way, so pick the option that meets your needs. Zazzle offers many more choices within each area of interest for those who want to zero in on a specific subject, such as pelicans or raccoons, whereas Amazon (and most stores near you) will only offer the calendars that they expect to sell to the widest number of customers.

This Scripture Nature Calendar Displays Many Types of Nature Scenes

This has it all -- forests, animals, waterfalls, ocean, flowers, and more, each with a well chosen appropriate Scripture verse. This calendar begins in December 2011 and continues until the end of 2012. When the years is over, each photo can be framed to continue to inspire you.

Customizing Your Calendar

When you decide to buy a calendar from a Zazzle shop, you will usually be invited to customize the content. Many of the calendar product pages will even have a template where you see all the picture in the calendar and a way to replace one or more pictures with your own. By clicking the orange "customize" button under the calendar you see, you will open a screen on the right side that will let you add or change text or pictures. You can change text styles and colors and move various elements of text around until you get them where you want them. If you decide to keep the content or after you have changed it, you can to the second step of determined the physical make-up of the calendar.

Step 2, which appears under Step 1 on the right side, allows you to determine whether your open calendar will have one or two pages, and you see an example of how each looks before making that decision. Next you can choose whether your calendar will be standard size, larger than standard, or smaller than standard. Again, you will see visual comparisons with the dimensions listed so you can just click one. As you mouse over each option, you will see the change in price appear above it. Next you choose the color of the wire that will bind your calendar. And, last, you will determine how the pages with the dates will look.

This last part was the hardest for me to figure out, so I'll go over it in detail with you. First, click edit next to "date style and options." Choosing your start and end date at the top of the edit box is the easiest part. Just use the drop-down menu. To choose your calendar style, click on the link with the style name to see a preview. If you think you aren't seeing a change, click on the preview to make it bigger, since sometimes you need to see the bigger picture to distinguish one style from another. When you are happy with the design of the calendar, click "Make it now." If you'd like to start over, hit "Cancel."

Let Your Gift Take Wings with a Bird Calendar.

With so many styles and bird species, you're sure to find just the right one.

I have shown a representative sample of the many types of bird calendars below. But most are representative of an entire group. There are many hummingbird calendars, for example, and many which focus on common birds or waterfowl. So consider these samples as your door in. Once you are there you will have no trouble finding or creating exactly what you want.

When You Are Young

When you are young, the days are short and the years are long. When you are old, the days are long and the years are short. In the middle, one doesn't have much time to think about it because both the days and years fly by so fast.

Water and Sky Calendars

Nothing inspires me more than looking up at the sky, especially a cloudy sky with a rising or setting sun. Sunsets can also be made even more spectacular when they are reflected in water. Both sky and water, separately or in combination, can soothe or excite our spirits. What better scenes to focus on in the midst of a hectic life!

What is your favorite kind of scenery?

Gulls at Moonstone Beach in Cambria

When looking at nature, it's really hard to choose whether I want to look at mountains, waterfalls, a gorgeous sunset, a rocky coast, or a placid lake. And that's before we even get to the wildlife and birds and butterflies. So maybe I'm the type who likes to mix the scenery up a bit when I buy a calendar. What's your taste in a nature calendar?

For everything there is a season.

and a time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

The years of our life

are threescore and ten, or even by reason of strength fourscore; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they soon are gone and we fly away....So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. From Psalm 90

Mixed Nature Calendars

These give you a bit of everything -- land, wildlife, water, sky -- you name it. Add your own inspirational quotes on most of these, or leave as is. Got a picture you like better than these? Most will let you substitute pictures.

What's your ideal calendar?

Maybe it's one of the free ones that come in the mail. Maybe you don't buy one for yourself because they are free. But I'll bet you have a calendar hanging on your wall and you will remember who sent it to you if it was a commercial enterprise, because it will be printed somewhere on the pages you see. How do you choose a calendar for yourself, or decide if the free one you have is what you want hanging on your wall or sitting on your desk? What's your favorite calendar subject? Is there something you wish were part of your calendar that isn't easy to find? If you've got any opinions about calendars, I invite you to share them below. Or, just let me know you were here.

Well, my favorite this year is on my wall in my office. It is the one my grandson gave me that his mom had made at snapfish. Every month has images of him from his first trip to Hawaii last summer. Other than my grandson as the subject, I love the ones with motivational quotations or inspiring photographs like I see here.

Here are lenses with some other gift ideas.

The best gifts match the personality and interests of the person you are choosing a gift for and although calendars will be perfect in many situations where an expensive gift isn't necessary, there are other occasions when something different is called for. Maybe the lenses below will give you some ideas for some of the others on your gift list.

More about BarbRad

I confess. I am not a shop-a-holic. I only go into stores when absolutely necessary, and when I need something for a gift, I try to think ahead so I can buy it on line. I hate traipsing from store to store parking, walking, and not always finding what I want. My shopping lenses are an attempt to help you avoid going through the quantity of items I looked at and rejected, while still leaving enough options to help you find what you are looking for easily. If you don't want one of my choices, there will be plenty more suggestions when you click through on one of my links that comes closest to what you want.
