About Raffles
The raffle involves many people buying raffle tickets for a chance to win a certain prize or certain prizes. At a set date, the winners are drawn from a bucket containing a copy of every number or a tombola (from Italian: tombola ['to:mbola]). The bought ticket is then checked against a collection of prizes with numbers attached to them.
A raffle also often involves several different possible prizes that can be won, and a ticket will simply be drawn from the group at random for each of the prizes one by one.
In this manner, you are not playing a raffle ticket to win a specific prize, but rather for the possibility of winning any one of the possible prizes, as the prizes do not have any specific numbers attached to them. A ticket is drawn for the winner of prize 1, that ticket is then left out of the container. A ticket is then drawn for the winner of prize 2, and that ticket is left out of the container, and so on. this continues until all of the prizes have been won.

Raffles are commonly held at large events such as yearly company picnics, carnivals and fairs, automobile shows, and others.
When holding your own raffle, a common practice for getting more money from the sale of tickets is to offer a large amount of tickets for a discounted price. The people buying the tickets tend to spend more money on tickets thinking that they have a better chance to win the prizes with more raffle tickets. Since the tickets themselves cost very little money to produce, and the expense of the prizes has already been set, the amount of tickets sold really creates no additional cost for the raffle holders.
In the United Kingdom, raffles are occasionally used to circumvent licensing laws. While only licensed premises are permitted to sell alcohol, there is no restriction on the offering of alcohol as prizes in contests. As such, at certain events, attendees are able to enter a raffle, for which they purchase a ticket and then retrieve their prize, which is invariably an alcoholic drink.
In Australia and Minnesota, meat raffles are commonplace in pubs, and registered clubs. Trays of meat or seafood are raffled off to raise money for a cause, usually a local sporting club.

Running a raffle is illegal in most of the United States, although many states make an exception for raffles in which the proceeds go to charity.

Custom Raffle Tickets

I highly recommend that you hire a company to print these tickets for you as opposed to getting a template and doing them yourself. What most people don't know about the Raffle Ticket Templates is that you have the cost of printing out all of the tickets on your home computer. Then you have to cut each one individually and figure out how to perforate the stub. By the time you go to Kinko's or someplace else to get it done, the time and energy you spent on the "free" tickets is much more costly than having a company do it for you who can keep costs low because of their equipment. So before you think of creating Printable raffle tickets, think twice about going to a shop like this.

If you get lured in by a sight claiming that they provide free template, you may end up in a field like the guys from Office Space.
Non Profit Fundraising

So what's the answer? Inject some FUN into your FUNdraising! Using raffle tickets for your non profit fundraiser is an instant way to get people excited. Yeah, people like to give to a good cause. And yes, some people will be heavily persuaded by convictions or guilt. But add a trip to the Caribbean, a brand new motorcycle, or a boat into the equation, and you can start to earn some serious cash for your group. When people have a chance to win a prize, they are much more willing to give to your cause. Why? People are greedy! You need to capitalize on this fact.

Fundraising for non profit organizations can be a great experience if you know how to do it right. The only real legwork you need to do is all upfront in getting the prizes. If you have some good connections to the business community, this may be easier than you think. Also, a great time to gather prizes is during the holiday season. Businesses are looking for any write off they can get and a donation to your non profit organization could be just what they are looking for. It's a win win because they get great PR!
So don't get frustrated trying to reinvent the wheel with non profit fundraising ideas. Use a raffle to help give your organization raise the necessary funds it needs.
