The need for Review Sites
Websites are being developed by the second. When a business creates a website, whether it be selling plugs or advertising their bar. In general the site owner will only point out the best point of their product or service. Leaving the bad points for you to find yourself!
This is where customer reviews are great. The majority are truthful reviews written by the customers' personal experience. If the service was poor or the product bad a review site will allow the customer to highlight all these factors, on the other hand, they will also give credit where it's due.
Are Customer Reviews Fair?
The majority of the time, yes they are. However a review can sometimes be open to abuse, for example a competitor could write a bad review, or the customer themselves could just be rotten!
However, if there are a number of reviews most of the time you can see a good pattern. For example if there are 15 reviews, and 2 are bad you can presume the overall product or service is good. If there are more bad reviews than good, you should be a little cautious.
When reading reviews always have an open mind, you may find the person who wrote the review is just a little too fussy, or the product was fine, but their expectations were not. Look at the reviewers history, to see how the generally write reviews, you may find a pattern and can tell what sort of personality the reviewer has.
Should A Business Be Open To Reviews?
If a business wishes not to be listed on a review site, you need to ask yourself why? Maybe they have been abused in the past? Or maybe they know their products or services are poor? I know if I was confident of providing a good service or product I wouldn't be frightened of being reviews, as the majority should be positive.
