How To Save Money With Coupons

Ranked #7,703 in Parenting & Kids, #268,335 overall

Saving money is easy!

In this day and age we all need to cut cost and save money. Higher prices on food, clothes, gas, and everything else makes it hard for our dollar to stretch

I have had to find many ways to cut costs. Since I stay at home and don't have much of an income at the moment. It can be tough.I can show you some of the ways that I cut costs just by using coupons at the store.

I am not a coupon queen, although I would love to be. Some people take their coupons to the store and buy $200 worth of groceries and only pay a few dollars. Now that's a coupon queen! I probably save around $20 per grocery trip. The way I see it is it's $20 that I can use on some thing else.

Use coupons at the grocery store

Combine your coupons with sales. Usually makes the price go way down on things. I have heard some people tell me. Why use coupons?? There are never any for the brands I use anyways! But I know for a fact that if you keep your coupons filed each week, you will find some you can use. Most people don't need to be brand loyal on every product they buy. The only way to save money is to switch brands and use the coupons. You can always keep your favorites but don't be brand loyal on everything.
Here are some easy steps to using coupons.

!. Cut coupons from the Sunday paper or magazines (coupons are found every where)

2. Get some sort of filing system ( small box, notebook, etc)

3. File your coupons by categories (beverages, canned goods, cereal, meats, etc)

4. Take them to the store and use them

Make sure you look at the ad papers each week, go through the ads and when you find an item that is on sale, look through your file for coupons you can combine with the sales item.

The binder method of using coupons

The binder method is a great way to keep your coupons and everything else you need all in one place.

Items you need:

Three ring binder (get these on sale or at a garage sale)
Nine pocket baseball card pages
Coupons
Scissors
Something to use to categorize your coupons (stiky notes taped to the page, dividers etc.

Place your baseball card pages and your dividers in your binder. Use the list above to make categories.

Cut coupons as close to the cut line as you can. File coupons in categories and your off to the store.

This is the most simple way but there are many different ways to make binders. Some people who do refunding, add refunding pages.

Tips: You can keep all your extra supplies like pens, scissors, calculator in a pencil case. Then place that in your binder too..

Don't forget your coupons!

It's all fine and dandy to cut and file coupons, but they do you no good if you forget them at home. Don't leave home without them

One of my favorite shopping stories

A few months ago, I was looking through the ads. Walgreens had some hair styling products on sale for 99 cents. They usually sold for around $2.99. I started looking through my coupons and low and behold I had 25 coupons for $1 off any of these products.I jumped for joy!!!.

After I made out my shopping list and found all the coupons that I needed, I headed out the door. First stop was at Walgreens. I asked if there was a limit on those styling products and sales person said "No"
I ran back to the aisle with the products and got two of each kind. Except shampoo, I got four.
Brought them to the counter and the price without the sale came to over $80 dollars. With sale price and coupons i got 24 products for FREE!!!! YES, FREE!!!

This was my first big excursion on becoming a coupon queen.

I did take a picture of the items I have left. I have already given some away to friends and used some up myself. But still have lots left to share with people. I was thinking of donating some to a women's shelter.

Ways to get coupons

Here are some ways you can find coupons.
  • Buy a Sunday paper. But make sure before you buy it at a store, It has coupons in it. Not all papers do.
  • Subscribe to the Sunday paper. Have it delivered to your home.
  • Look through magazines. Most magazines have some kind of coupon in them.
  • On line.. Most manufactures have a special place where you can print coupons on line.
  • On product boxes. A lot of times you can find coupons on products you have bought at the store.
  • Ask friends and family to save coupons for you. They will!!!
  • Join a coupon group on line and trade coupons. Yahoo has many such groups.
  • Product demonstrators. Usually when a demonstrator at a store is showing you a new product. (samples or give aways) They have coupons. It wont hurt to ask for a few .

“I bought nine bottles of Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice and it only cost me 49 cents Total!!!”

It looks like you are on your way to become
a "coupon princess", not quite a queen yet.

Love that Walgreen's deal that you got!

And the idea of donating some of the products to a women's shelter
    is FANTASTIC.

I totally agree, I get things free all the time from using coupons. I have like 20 tubes of free toothpaste in my cabinets. If you organize it just right and look through your sale ads once a week you can save a bundle. I usually layout all my coupons on the floor and match them to the ads. It really is worth the time in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!

Nicely done; blessed by a SquidAngel.
Remember that your $20 saved in couponing is actually worth more than $20.
If you earned $20 at a job, you would have to pay taxes from it!
In this way, $20 cash is worth more than $20!
