Cute Fruit: The Green Pear

Ranked #6,896 in Arts & Design, #115,556 overall

The Green Pear - a most versatile (and cute) fruit!

Whether it's a green pear print for your wall, or a recipe for a green pear salad, this cute fruit is one that no kitchen should be without!

There's just something about the shape of a pear that makes it more interesting than the ordinary round fruit. The pear does its own thing, yet still manages to look elegant (unlike the banana which can't help but be comical!).

Then there is that pear green color, with the pretty blush of rose. It's as if the pear was designed by an artist, simply to be admired and painted.

Yet this juicy little number is 100% natural. Pears are packed with health benefits - they are an excellent source of dietary fiber and Vitamin C in particular, and at the same time low on calories.

There are so many reasons to love the green pear. (Of course, its golden and red sisters are just as sweet. But for me, the perfect pear is green.)

So join me, if you will, in this celebration of everything green pear!

A little background

Pears are an orchard fruit, grown on trees in temperate regions of the Earth.

The biggest producer of pears by far is currently the People's Republic of China. Next comes Italy, and the United States is in third place.

The pear family includes both Western and Asian varieties. Some of those popular in the USA and Europe include:

Culinary uses of the pear

A versatile fruit, pears can be cooked or eaten raw. The Pear Shape

The pear is a unique shape, so unique that anything else resembling it is known as pear-shaped. Although the expression 'it's all gone pear-shaped' implies that things aren't turning out quite as well as planned, the pear is also a sought-after shape.

For example, precious gemstones including diamonds may be pear cut. Gems cut in such a way make lovely drop earrings and pendants.

The pear shape is also a natural shape for us women! Indeed, a large difference between waist and hip measurements is an indicator of good health, which might explain why most men like their women to have curves.

Celebrities with the classic pear shape include actresses Lindsey Lohan and Sandra Bullock, and singer Beyonce. In fact, the pear is probably the most frequently found body shape among women - although a trim and toned pear might look quite different from an out-of-shape one.

If you are a pear shaped girl, there are some fashion tips that will help you show off your feminine shape to its best.

Cute Green Pear

If two's a pear.... what does three make?

Make your own cute green pear

Here's the book that has the 'little pear' pattern!

I taught myself to crochet and was getting all tied up in knots when I started. However, when I saw Ana Paula Rimoli's adorable amigurumi book filled from cover to cover with cute designs, and above all that happy little green pear, I knew I had to keep on trying.

To my surprise, after only one false start, I made good progress with my cute little green pear. I just used some inexpensive acrylic yarn in a nice shade of green, plus a couple of circles of pink felt for the cheeks. The hardest part was keeping count of the rows and I probably didn't do so perfectly.

I was delighted with my finished result though - and everyone else seems to think I've got a cute pear too! ;-)

Below you can find 'Amigurumi World' - the book with the happy green pear pattern.

Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet

Used Price: $9.98

I found it an easy-to-follow book packed with fun designs, all of them achievable for a crochet beginner who knows the basic stitches.

Don't want to take my word for it? Here's what Amazon.com reviewer Jasmine Clark "Mina" says:

I looked at several ami books before I bought this one, and this is by far the cutest one. I had a basic knowledge of crocheting (all I knew how to do was make granny squares!) but the easy guide in the front of the book taught me how to do double crochets, half double, back post singles, increases, and decreases. Now I make these cute babies for fun and to give as gifts and everyone raves about how cute they are. Now that I know the basics of making dolls I can put my own special touches on Ana's adorable designs or make up my own original dolls. I think this is the best starter book for anyone who wants to learn crochet a little better and make really cute dolls in the process.
