Cuteness draws attention, and even fame. Being cute definitely pays. The market for cuteness is definitely there, because gosh darn it, if we are not cute, we will pay to enhance cuteness. We possess anything that's cute, hoping in return the quality of cute will reflect upon us. So why are we obsessed with things that are cute? Why does cuteness elicit such big hoopla from us?
Cuteness is a kind of attractiveness commonly associated with youth and appearance, as well as a scientific concept and analytical model in ethology, first introduced by Konrad Lorenz.
Kitties are sooo cute, they make me do irrational things like baby talk to them and mentally squeezing the living daylight out of them.
Sanrio's Hello Kitty is one of the world most famous kitty and a long living brand. Besides run-of-the-mill toys, stationary and t-shirts, you can find Hello Kitty featured on credit cards, Stratocaster guitars, and diamond jewelry. Apparantly, cuteness is not exclusive to kid's stuff. On a recent trip to Hong Kong, I spotted a Hello kitty wedding display in a shopping center. Even some of their subway trains have Hello Kitty painted on.

Cuteness is very much interwoven into the popular Japanese culture. I think they got cuteness down to a science. If cute things bring a smile to people faces and introduce innocent fun into every day's lives, I'm all for it.
Since the 1970s, has become a prominent aspect of Japanese popular culture, entertainment, clothing, food, toys, personal appearance, behavior, and mannerisms.Diana Lee, "Inside Look at Japanese Cute Culture" (September 1, 2005). Foreign observers often find this cuteness either intriguing or revolting because the Japanese employ it in a vast array of situations and demographics where, in other cultures, it would be considered incongruously juvenile or frivolous (for example, in government publications, public service warnings, office environments, military advertisements, and commercial airliners, among many others).

In the fashion world, cuteness equates youth and prettiness. All those ruffles tops, baby doll dresses, anything with a sweetheart neckline, peasant skirts, dainty jewelry, bows, floral pattern, pastel color... they all send a message that the wearer is playful and innocent. We even have charms for purses and cellphones so they would look cuter. Do they make you prettier? Younger? Enhance your features or surroundings? You be the judge.

Definitely a fan of cuteness here.
But there is something about this phenomenon that really bugs me:
Countless people adopting cute puppies, kittens and other animals only because they look cute. They forget that they are living beings, and that they grow up. And often, as a consequence of that, when the animal grows and its appearance changes, they don't want it anymore. Because "it's not cute anymore", and "it has become an annoyance". The animals are then abandoned, and forgotten.
When you decide to adopt an animal, always remember that it's a living being that requires attention, care, and much love! Animals are not toys or accessories that you can trash away when you no longer find them visually appealing!
Good job with this lens!
