Twins Get My Heart A Thumpin'

From that first moment when the doctor says "It's Twins", until you see them graduate from high school, life with two children the exact same age can be challenging, rewarding, joyful, tearful, expensive and downright fun.
I've experienced it first hand with our set of twin boys, now 19 years old and just heading out to make their own place in the world.
Let me tell you a little about our story. On the day when our twins were born, we already had three boys ages 6, 4 and 2. So, "babies made five" in our case. They were born full term, a blessing for us, although at 8 1/2 lbs. each it was a lot of baby that last month of pregnancy! Our twins are fraternal and one of them was diagnosed with high-functioning autism at age 4. We were also blessed with two more children after the twins, bringing our total to 7. Having twins right in the middle of things has been a wonderful experience. What a joy to see one twin helping out the other as he struggled to learn things that would have been easy for any of our other children. They have cheered for each other over the years and generally made our lives interesting as we have navigated the twin way of doing things. There have been great rewards, like seeing them receive their Eagle Scout rank on the same night, and some heartbreak, like having one twin graduate a year behind the other due to his autism.
When they were infants, I sometimes thought the day would never end. But looking back, how the years have flown. For moms and dads who are just beginning the journey, I hope you will find ways to enjoy each day despite the challenges to time, energy and finances.
I hope to include a variety of information in this lens about special twin topics as well as general info on enjoying life with your twins. Near and dear to me are twins with disabilities, nursing twins, gifted twins, the relationship between twins and more.
